renery developed on the coast of BC. THE GREENEST REFINERY BUILT IN THE WORLD The facility will: Create long-term economic opportunity for British Columbia by adding value to Canadian resources locally, rather than overseas. Create thousands of jobs and economic stability at homes Protect the BC Coast by avoiding the shipment of raw bitumen from the Northern Alberta Oil Sands by tanker o the BC Coast to Asia. 6000 3000 When developed, Pacic Future Energy will be a near net zero carbon emission facility and the cleanest renery in the world. A CLEAN REFINERY Powered by Clean Energy Many reneries are powered on-site, using dirty fuel oil. But we can do better. A combination of natural gas and renewable sources will be used to reduce renery emissions by 40%. Capturing all remaining carbon World-class carbon capture technology allows a further 52% reduction in emissions. Using biogas To get to 0% emissions, the remaining energy used to power the renery should be from biogas gas made from agricultural and other natural products. 1 2 3 -40% -52% 0% The plan: Raw bitumen is extracted from Canadas oil sands and is primarily transported for export via a pipeline. If a pipeline through BC was approved without a renery, it would put the coast at risk, sending tens of thousands of tankers carrying heavy bitumen through our cherished coastline. Dierence between a bitumen and diesel spill: Bitumen, a raw product from the oil sands, is thick and heavy. In a spill, the bitumen immediately sinks to the ocean oor and stays there. Pacic Future Energy renery would turn this bitumen into rened products like diesel and gasoline. In the case of a spill, these products oat on top of water and evaporate. Avoiding any possibility of a bitumen spill: We want to build the greenest renery in the world, right here in BC. This is a unique opportunity to turn Albertas raw bitumen into high value rened products for the fastest growing oil markets in the world, but it wont be done at any cost to our coast or the broader environment. PROTECTING OUR COAST A STRONGER CANADA When we export our energy, we have no control over how it is processed, and jobs are created elsewhere. When we rene our energy and export value-added products, we create good jobs. But we also take responsibility for ensuring that Canadas energy resources are rened according to high Canadian environmental and labour standards.
