Last but far from the least, my sincere thanks go to all my colleagues at
Department
of Foreign Languages for their valuable support and persistent
encouragement.
I am highly grateful to my respected colleague Dr. Hasan Banna

Director %edical
Education for professional guidance that &as instrumental for the
completion of this book. 'pecial thanks and appreciation are also due to
%r. $imothy "arker, English Language Instructor at Department of Foreign

$his te(tbook is a logical outcome of a comprehensive research pro-ect
carried out at +ollege of %edicine and %edical 'ciences .+%%'/ by its
during 0112 to determine the linguistic needs and preferred learning styles
of its students. $he te(tbook is designed to cater for their specific needs
by considering their culturally driven preferred learning styles. $he
purpose of the book is not to teach medicine but to inculcate the academic
ability in the students to go to read, listen to and3or &atch a te(t, audio or
video on medical topics and understand, e(tract and utili4e the information
&ithin them in an effective and efficient manner.
$o achieve this goal, the book ensures an integrated practice in various
language skills along &ith emphasi4ing the other important language areas
of vocabulary and medical terminology. 5eading passages of moderate
length have been carefully selected focusing on si( different parts of the
human body. # variety of e(ercises is employed in all the units to
familiari4e the students &ith different learning situations and promote
students6 interest and motivation

I &ish to ackno&ledge my sincere indebtedness to Dr. $alal #bdullah #l
%alki, the former Dean of the +ollege of %edicine and %edical 'ciences at
$aif 7niversity &ho &orked to promote a research oriented atmosphere at
the +ollege that facilitated and encouraged me to accomplish this academic
task. I gratefully ackno&ledge the unstinting and unconditional support of
Dr. $urkey 'aleem #l$hubaiti, +hairman, Department of Foreign
Languages, for any pro-ect that contributes to academic e(cellence and
professional development. I admit that &ithout his encouragement this
&ould not have been possible for me. I &ish to e(press my great
appreciation to Dr. %uhammad #l*hairi, Dean, +ollege of #rts for
