.eneath all these, and slightly aove the Gar,hodak ocean, are the Naraklokas, or the hellish
planets.

'%6%K-LOK% or ,he +ellish 7lanets
Nara' is the Hindu counterpart of Christian +ell and (slamic Do>a)h.
This place acts as a purgatory for the souls who have commited the most aominale actions on
the earthly plane. "nli'e the 0ternal Hell of 2estern religions though, this place is temporary
and once the soul has learnt its lesson, it is free to move ac' into the regular dimension.
,owest of all are the 7lanets of Hell
There are C> different hells descried in the Eedic literature and these planets areG (aurav, +u$ar,

The different Hells
The ancient sages have made provisions of expiation for those sinners who feel guilty in their
conscience after committing their sins. *nly those sinners who do not expiate for their sins fall
into these hells. !lthough life here seems to go on for an eternity, in actual fact the duration of
one/s Karmic sentence here may e only seconds or moments.
!ll these Hells are under the domain of %urya-putra Yamara. where he delivers judgement
according to the record 'ept y his assistant Chitra-gupta.

!s ( understand, the sins are paid off in hell only when you have achieved the human form at the
end of the >A la'h irths you have ta'en.. at all other times, the soul is immediately transferred to
a new ody as soon as it leaves the previous one.
.elow these planets is the 5arbhoda) O#ean which forms the ottom of the "niversal -$$ or

%nant-(hesh has thousands of hoods and each of the hoods carries a right gemstone that
illuminates the a3imuths. !t the end of every Kala, .rahma goes to sleep and rests for the night.
The time has come now for the !aha-ralaya when fiery poison emanates from !nanta/s
thousands of hoods and destroys all Creation. This is the (an)arshan form of the ,ord from
whose eyerows appears the three-eyed 6udra who destroys the three worlds and dances the
dance of destruction 'nown as the Tandav.
