CONFIDENTIAL BRIEFING
13/11/2013
The LISC rebates up to $500 into the super accounts
of working Australians earning less than $37,000
whose marginal rate of tax is 15% or less. It benefits
3.6 million Australians and over two million women.
Scrapping the
Low Income Super Contribution
will leave
1 in 3 Australian workers worse off
The abolition of the LISC will disproportionately
affect regional and rural Australians
• 24 of the 25 worst affected electorates are
regional/rural
• In regional areas almost 40% of employees are
affected, compared to just over 30% in metro areas
• Regional and rural areas will lose almost $0.5bn
annually in low income super contributions
4 of the 5 worst affected electorates in Australia
are represented by the Nationals
• On average in Nationals held electorates 44% of
employees are affected compared to 34% in Liberal
and Labor held electorates
• In the worst affected electorates almost one in two
employees are affected compared to less than one in
five employees in the least affected metropolitan
electorates
Removal of the
LISC will have a
heavy impact on
women,
especially in
regional areas.
45% of female
employees will be
affected nationally, and
in Nationals held
electorates that figure
rises to 54.2%
