We know the sun reverses the magnetic field at the peak of a solar cycle, which is to be happening right now.

“Something big is about to happen on the sun. According to measurements from NASA-supported observatories, the sun's vast magnetic field is about to flip”.
“During field reversals, the current sheet becomes very wavy. Scherrer likens the undulations to the seams on a baseball. As Earth orbits the sun, we dip in and out of the current sheet. Transitions from one side to another can stir up stormy space weather around our planet.“

It looks like we just experienced some stormy space weather in Austria and Germany as we lost secondary radar control in that area for 20, respectively 25 minutes at the 5th and the 10th of June 2014.

A moderate geomagnetic storm has been recorded for 8.6.2014, whereas moderate solar M-flares have been recorded at 3rd , 6th, 9th and 12th of June and grave solar X-flares have been recorded at the 10th and 11th of June.
