NE OF THE RECOGNIZED and indisputablecommandments of Isl¡m is that of marriage –the sacred union that takes place only between aman and a woman. In relation to this reveredbond, there are many verses of the Noble Qur’¡n andcountless a¦¡d¢th that encourage marriage for any single manor woman – of any age or background. This is not onlylimited to the young brothers and sisters who have neverbeen married and are looking for their life mate, but eventhose who have been through divorce have also beenencouraged to re-marry and to “complete” their faith. Fromthe ocean of traditions and verses of the Qur’¡n on this topic,we quote the following:

In this verse, All¡h
i
commands us (by Him using theimperative form of the verb) to marry the single, righteousman/woman from among us. All¡h
i
even gives us aguarantee that if we are poor or lack the proper funds, still weshould not delay the marriage as All¡h
i
will take care of the couple and grant them bounties from His Grace andMercy.

“And let those who cannot find someone to marry maintain chastity until All¡h makes them rich through His favours...” (S

In the continuation of S£rah 24, in the above quoted verse, All¡h

commands the believers to remain chaste andfaithful if they cannot find a suitable spouse to marry until All¡h

grants them bounties out of His favors. Thus, onemust not resort to evil, sin or illicit sexual relationshipsbecause they cannot find a permanent spouse. One such avenue open to those who cannot afford to marry awoman in Nik¡¦, as the Qur’¡n has commanded us and thenumerous a¦¡d¢th from the Prophet of Isl¡m (blessings of All¡h be upon him and his progeny) and his 12

“…and besides these, it is lawful for you to marry other women if you pay them their dowry, maintain chastity and do not commit indecency. So those (women) whom you marry for an appointed time, you must give them their agreed upon dowries. There is no harm if you reach an understanding among yourselves about the dowry, All¡h is All-Knowing and All-Wise.(S£rah 4, Verse 24)
This is a commandment from All¡h

which was not onlymentioned in the Qur’¡n, but which He commanded his lastand greatest Prophet (blessings of All¡h be upon him and hisprogeny) to convey to the Ummah, which can never be madeforbidden by anyone as that which Mu¦ammad has madehal¡l is hal¡l until the Day of Judgement and that which hehas made ¦ar¡m will remain ¦ar¡m until the Day of Judgement. In another verse of the Qur’¡n, All¡h

“They (your wives) are a clothing (covering) for you and you too are a clothing (covering) for them.” (2:187)
In our day to day life, we see many uses for clothing. Notonly does our dress act as a beautification for ourselves, butit also covers any defects that we may have on our physicalbody – thus, if a person has a scar or burn mark on his body, the clothing will cover this from others around him and thus, they would not know that he has such a physical ‘defect’.The husband and wife are to play the same role in relation toone another. If the wife has spiritual defects or lackssomething in her character, then the husband must coverthese up and not expose her shortcomings to others. The wifetoo, must cover up and hide her husbands’ deficiencies andweaknesses and protect her mate. Not only has All¡h
i
commanded the believers not to make fun of one anotherand not to mock or ridicule others, but they are alsosupposed to protect the honour and integrity of one another. In the 30

Dear Brothers Saleem and Yasin, I am glad that you have read the article. I agree to your comments and we should respect difference of opinion. Unfotunately I am a bit touchy about calling each others Shias and Sunnis; I belong to NWFP Pakistan where Sunnis (In some tribal areas) have started slaughtering and humaliating the dead bodies of Shias and there are sectarian clashes in some places (Heavy weapons are used); in fact muslims are killing muslims which is a totally unacceptable act. Islam is a religion for Humanity as our beloved profit was not Rhmatul il Muslimeen, he is Rehmatul il Aalameen. Lets prove with our acts that we love all human beings. I am so sorry if my comments have hurt your sentiments. Fee Amanillah
Salaam Alaikum Brother, Indeed the teachings in this manual are based on the "Shi'ite" teachings - I hope however that non-Shi'a can also read this with an open mind and heart and learn from it. Indeed we have 'differences' when it comes to the Jurisprudence of Islam, but there are also commonalities between the Fiqh of Imam Ja'far as Sadiq which the Shi'i follow and the four dominant Sunni schools of Jurisprudence. Me, as a follower of the teachings of Imam Ja'far as Sadiq can and do read Sunni works and would hope that others would also keep such an open mind.
To Brother J Khan: A/A/W/W Thank you brother for commenting on my comment. This is really not a matter of Tafaruqa. We may disagree on any issue and with anybody. Students of the same class may have different approach towards an issue. Even members of the same family may disagree with with each other. That does not mean thay have tafaruqah. As far as the Shiet and Sunni differences are concerned, they are there; and there can be no denying. These are not a few, but hundreds. Some are very basic. I have cautioned only to avoid cofusion. While I do that, I never intend to hurt the sentiments of anybody. Nor do I expect that one brother would clash with the other. Disagreement does not mean dispute.
Lets Forget Tafrruqa and call ourselves muslims only and not to be known by our sects.
This is a Shiet Muslim Book. Sunnis may not agree with some parts.
