A web page from Thomson West boasting of exclusive access to pages from the Government Accountability Office. Note the "feature" at the bottom in which all the GAO law librarians "have already done all the compilation for you." Sure smells like a "work of the government," doesn't it?

17 mar 2008 boing boing: Did US gov't sell exclusive access to legislative history to Thomson West? John Wonderlich of Sunlight Foundation alerted me to a situation at GAO. law librarians at GAO compiled complete fed legislative histories from 1915 on. These are dossiers that track a bill thu hearing process to law. GAO cut a deal w/ West to scan. West claims exclusive access and boast u should buy this "product" from West because GAO public employees done the work! track this issue @ Scribd group that has all doc obtained. we asked for a copy of every scan under FOIA
