Program Manager Job Description

The Crown Heights Community Mediation Center, a project of the Center for Court Innovation, is
seeking a Program Manager to run a Crown Heights anti-gun violence program. The Center for Court
Innovation, founded as a public/private partnership with the Fund for the City of New York, is a non-
profit think tank that helps aid victims, reduce crime and improve public confidence

Operating out of a storefront since the summer of 1998, the Mediation Center provides training, youth
programs and resource links to community residents. Its mission is to strengthen the community and prevent
future conflicts by enhancing access to justice, promoting public safety, and encouraging communication and
understanding. The soon to be named anti-gun violence program will be a replication of the Chicago Project
for Violence Prevention’s evidence-based CeaseFire: The Campaign to Stop the Shooting program, a
cutting edge gun violence prevention model that aims to reduce and prevent shootings through the use of
public health strategies. Working closely with the Mediation Center’s Project Director, the Program
Manager will be responsible for operationalizing the five core components of the Crown Heights anti-gun
violence approach: outreach, community mobilization, public education, faith leader involvement and
relationship with local law enforcement representatives.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Develop relationships with local service providers and program partners, including law
enforcement, faith leaders, and community stakeholders, in order to identify and access resources
for individuals at high risk of being gun violence victims or perpetrators
• Supervise the outreach team, including regular staff meetings
• Work with community partners to develop and implement a local violence prevention plan that
utilizes the Chicago Project for Violence Prevention framework, including convening a public
safety coalition
• Through community organizing techniques, mobilize the community to participate in activities
designed to change local norms towards gun violence
• Plan and implement community responses to shootings within seventy-two (72 hours) of each
incident
• Recruit and manage an active volunteer base
• Organize and execute regular community activities
• Manage and track all public education efforts
• Prepare quarterly grant progress reports and other program reports as needed
• Participate in all administration/management meetings and ensure that meeting proceedings are
communicated to other staff
• Complete documentation and reports on a timely basis
• Coordinate evaluation activities of the community-based violence prevention program
• Organize and participate in regular reviews of program progress
Qualifications

• BA or higher (MA preferred) in a human services field) or equivalent experience

• Experience working with people who were formerly incarcerated
• No pending criminal cases or prior convictions for sexual assault, child abuse or domestic violence.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• Proven management experience (e.g., monitoring budgets, programmatic progress to goals, etc.)
• Proven community organizing abilities
• Proven ability to document programmatic activities and outcomes
• Experience and/or training in crisis intervention and staff supervision

Position Type: Full-time, requires some evening and weekend hours

Compensation: $40,000-45,000. Commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits.
