Understanding Basic Metrics
Visits –
Total # of users who came to your site during a specified time frame. Includes users who visited more than once.
Unique Visitors –
The “first” visit during a specified time frame. Only unique once.
Page Views –
Total # of pages consumed by all “visits.”
Bounce Rate –
Percentage of visits that only viewed 1 page and then left.
Conversion Rate
–
Percentage of users who completed a desired action (filled out a form, purchased, or downloaded).
Traffic Sources
–
Includes direct, referring, search engines, ppc, and any other “online medium.”
Content
–
The number of page views for each page. Which pages are “sticky” and which need help.
These metrics form the basis for your analysis.
