SGHS is launching a service-learning program with afresh take on what volunteering and service hours will looklike. Starting November 18, a once-a-month, all-school ser-vice day will be initiated. During these service days stu-dents will attend regular classes in the mornings and in theafternoons head to various service sites throughout thecity. Volunteer opportunities range from performing chil-dren's theatre for grade schoolers, visiting with the elderly, conducting a creative writing workshop at a women's shel-ter, planning activities for disabled persons, or supervisingtoddlers at a community center. Students have a real op-portunity to form relationships with the people at theirsites, both clients and employees, since they will remain atthe same service site all year.We hope this experience will develop within our stu-dents a deep sense of compassion and a furthered interestin community involvement.
Service-Learning partners in-clude
