HOTEL OPENINGS
Total hotel openings by international hotelmanagement companies increased by 20%(21% increase in total number of rooms opened)in Q1 2014 in Asia Pacific, as compared to thesame period in 2013.While majority of the hotels opened were undemanagement agreements, 23% of the hotelsopened were under franchise agreements.Following the trend from last year, majority of thehotels opened in Asia Pacific were new builds,however, approximately 12% of the propertiesopened were conversion hotels.The number of hotels opened in China increasedby approximately 42% as compared to thesame quarter in 2013, while India dropped inits hotel openings by approximately 38%.

The total number of deals signed declined by3% in Q1 2014, which corresponded to a decreasein hotel rooms signed by 12%, when comparedto Q1 2013.Australia witnessed a surge in the number of deals signed by approximately 45%, whileChina witnessed a drop of 14% as comparedto the same quarter in 2013.17% of the deals signed were franchiseagreements; signed predominantly in India,South Korea and China.12% of the new hotel deals signed were conversionproperties, predominantly seen in Australia.The average room size per property acrossthe deals signed in Q1 2014 was 231 per hotel,as compared to 252 rooms per hotel in Q1 2013.
