TARGETS LEVEL 3C NON-FICTION
:Sustain silent reading to include longer, more complex texts.Read aloud with intonation and expression taking account of punctuation e.g. commas to markpauses and grammatical boundaries.Understand the features of page layout in non-fiction texts, e.g. titles, subheadings, labels,diagrams and charts.Recognise the function of the apostrophe in omissions and pronounce contracted forms correctly.Identify the main point and summarise orally the content of a passage of text.Uses indexes to locate information.
Strategies used:
A=phonic knowledge: sound out phonemes and words& blend them together.B=Graphic knowledge: look at the shape of the wordC=Grammatical knowledge: which type of word wouldfit into this sentence?D= Context: What would make sense in the story?E= Pictorial clues : use the pictures in the book
