Sin intentional or unintentional?MRav. McDonaldAll rights reserved.I was asked recently about the sacrificial system for “Unintentional” sins. And these have alsobeen in the parsha's of late.The question was “If the sacrificial system was for unintentional sins, how were intentionalsins dealt with and how does it relate to us today.

One of the most commonly used scriptures is Vayikra 17:11
Lev 17:11For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to makeatonement for yourselves; for it is the blood that makes atonement because of the life.'
Now lets look at the New Covenant to see what relationship this has to salvation. Matt 26:28;Mark 14:24;
Rom 3
:25, 5:6-10; Ephesians 1:7a; Colossians 1:14,20-23;
Heb 9
, 13:11-12;1 Peter 1:2; 1 John 1:7; Rev 1:4-6
Mat 26:28 For this is my blood, which ratifies the New Covenant, my blood shed on behalf of many, sothat they may have their sins forgiven.Mar 14:24 He said to them, "This is my blood, which ratifies the New Covenant, my blood shed on behalfof many people.Rom 5:6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time, the Messiah died on behalf of ungodly people.Rom 5:7 Now it is a rare event when someone gives up his life even for the sake of somebody righteous,although possibly for a truly good person one might have the courage to die.Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in that the Messiah died on our behalf while we werestill sinners.Rom 5:9 Therefore, since we have now come to be considered righteous by means of his bloody sacrificialdeath, how much more will we be delivered through him from the anger of God's judgment!Rom 5:10 For if we were reconciled with God through his Son's death when we were enemies, how muchmore will we be delivered by his life, now that we are reconciled!Eph 1:7a In union with him, through the shedding of his blood, we are set free - our sins are forgiven;Col 1:14 It is through his Son that we have redemption - that is, our sins have been forgiven.Col 1:20 and through his Son to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, makingpeace through him, through having his Son shed his blood by being executed on a stake.Col 1:21 In other words, you, who at one time were separated from God and had a hostile attitude towardshim because of your wicked deeds,Col 1:22 he has now reconciled in the Son's physical body through his death; in order to present you holyand without defect or reproach before himself -Col 1:23 provided, of course, that you continue in your trusting, grounded and steady, and don't let yourselves be moved away from the hope offered in the Good News you heard. This is the Good Newsthat has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven; and I, Sha'ul, have become a servant of it.

Heb 13:11 For the cohen hagadol brings the blood of animals into the Holiest Place as a sin offering, buttheir bodies are burned outside the camp.pHeb 13:12 So too Yeshua suffered death outside the gate, in order to make the people holy through hisown blood.1Pe 1:2 chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father and set apart by the Spirit for obeyingYeshua the Messiah and for sprinkling with his blood: Grace and shalom be yours in full measure.1Jn 1:7 But if we are walking in the light, as he is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, andthe blood of his Son Yeshua purifies us from all sin.Rev 1:4 From: Yochanan To: The seven Messianic communities in the province of Asia: Grace and shalom to you from the One who is, who was and who is coming; from the sevenfold Spirit before his throne;Rev 1:5 and from Yeshua the Messiah, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead and the ruler ofthe earth's kings. To him, the one who loves us, who has freed us from our sins at the cost of hisblood,Rev 1:6 who has caused us to be a kingdom, that is, cohanim for God, his Father - to him be the glory andthe rulership forever and ever. Amen.
Now what we see in Vayikra is the specific sacrifice offered by the Koahen for unintentionalsins. Now you need to understand that these sacrifices were to be on the ALTAR, morespecifically to the sprinkling or pouring of the blood on the altar was to signify the life ofthe sacrificed animal was given to G-d instead of the sinners life. Even though the sin was inmost cases unintentional, most sin's required death of the person that committed the sin, sothe animal sacrifice and the sprinkling or pouring of the blood on the altar was atonement forthat crime/sin.Now the command was for the blood to be sprinkled or poured on the altar, and we all knowaccording to scripture that Messiah Yeshua died on the tree, and that His blood was NOT poured on the altar in the temple. But He did rise from the dead and ascend into heaven tobe with Adonai. The blood burned on the altar so the smoke would rise to G-d. MessiahYeshua ascended to be with Adonai. In either case the life went to G-d as blood was the lifeof the animal sacrificed, just as the physical being of Yeshua went Blood and all to Adonai.Scripture does continue to show also in Numbers/B'midbar 15:15-31 the ordinance, and that itwas specifically for unintentional sins.
Num 15:15 For this community there will be the same law for you as for the foreigner living with you; thisis a permanent regulation through all your generations; the foreigner is to be treated the same waybefore ADONAI as yourselves.Num 15:16 The same Torah and standard of judgment will apply to both you and the foreigner living with you.'"Num 15:17 ADONAI said to Moshe,Num 15:18 "Speak to the people of Isra'el; tell them, 'When you enter the land where I am bringing youNum 15:19 and eat bread produced in the land, you are to set aside a portion as a gift for ADONAI.

Num 15:20 Set aside from your first dough a cake as a gift; set it aside as you would set aside a portion ofthe grain from the threshing-floor.Num 15:21 From your first dough you will give ADONAI a portion as a gift through all your generations.Num 15:22 "'If by mistake you fail to observe all these mitzvot that ADONAI has spoken to Moshe,Num 15:23 yes, everything that ADONAI has ordered you to do through Moshe, from the day ADONAIgave the order and onward through all your generations,Num 15:24 then, if it was done by mistake by the community and was not known to them, the wholecommunity is to offer one young bull for a burnt offering as a fragrant aroma to ADONAI, with itsgrain and drink offerings, in keeping with the rule, and one male goat as a sin offering.Num 15:25 The cohen is to make atonement for the whole community of the people of Isra'el; and theywill be forgiven; because it was a mistake; and they have brought their offering, an offering made byfire, to ADONAI, and their sin offering before ADONAI for their mistake.Num 15:26 The whole community of the people of Isra'el will be forgiven, likewise the foreigner stayingwith them; because for all the people it was a mistake.Num 15:27 "'If an individual sins by mistake, he is to offer a female goat in its first year as a sin offering.Num 15:28 The cohen will make atonement before ADONAI for the person who makes a mistake by sinninginadvertently; he will make atonement for him, and he will be forgiven -Num 15:29 no matter whether he is a citizen of Isra'el or a foreigner living with them. You are to haveone law for whoever it is that does something wrong by mistake.Num 15:30 "'But an individual who does something wrong intentionally, whether a citizen or a foreigner, isblaspheming ADONAI. That person will be cut off from his people.Num 15:31 Because he has had contempt for the word of ADONAI and has disobeyed his command, thatperson will be cut off completely; his offense will remain with him.'"**Heb 10:23-29;Heb 10:23 Let us continue holding fast to the hope we acknowledge, without wavering; for the One whomade the promise is trustworthy.Heb 10:24 And let us keep paying attention to one another, in order to spur each other on to love and gooddeeds,Heb 10:25 not neglecting our own congregational meetings, as some have made a practice of doing, but,rather, encouraging each other. And let us do this all the more as you see the Day approaching.Heb 10:26 For if we deliberately continue to sin after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there nolonger remains a sacrifice for sins,Heb 10:27 but only the terrifying prospect of Judgment, of raging fire that will consume the enemies.Heb 10:28 Someone who disregards the Torah of Moshe is put to death without mercy on the word of twoor three witnesses.pHeb 10:29 Think how much worse will be the punishment deserved by someone who has trampled underfootthe Son of God; who has treated as something common the blood of the covenantq which made himholy; and who has insulted the Spirit, giver of God's grace!**1 Peter 2:1-101Pe 2:1 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice, of all deceit, hypocrisy and envy, and of all the ways thereare of speaking against people;1Pe 2:2 and be like newborn babies, thirsty for the pure milk of the Word; so that by it, you may grow upinto deliverance.1Pe 2:3 For you have tasted that ADONAI is good.1Pe 2:4 As you come to him, the living stone, rejected by people but chosen by God and precious to him,1Pe 2:5 you yourselves, as living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be cohanim set apart for
