Getting Started
For the sake of this document I'm going to use Highly Relevant as the company I work for and tailor my LinkedIn profile as such. Please make sure you input the company youwork for and include any other relevant information accordingly.
Step 1:
Create a LinkedIn profile atwww.LinkedIn.com.
Step 2:
Update your LinkedIn profile.a. Update
Professional Headline
: “(Your Position) at Highly Relevant” b. Update
Experience
, including descriptions.c. Update

.e. Upload a professional-looking picture of yourself.f. Update your
Contact Settings

Step 3:
Add contacts (e.g. friends, colleagues, etc.).a. Import your contacts from your e-mail provider (e.g. Gmail, etc.) b. Add contacts by looking through the contact lists of your other contacts.
Step 4:
Join LinkedIn Groups.a. Join your alumni groups. b. Join groups related to Internet marketing, SEO, Social Media, etc.c. Participate in relevant group discussions.
Maintenance
•
Update “What are you working on” when working on a new project, etc. Theseupdates will keep you in front of your network and update them on the projectsthat you are working on.

Add at least 10 new connections per week. Whenever you get a business cardfrom people you meet (e.g. potential partners and clients), try to find them onLinkedIn, and add them as a connection.

Ask clients to write recommendations for you.
•
Answer at least one question in the “Answers” section per week in order todevelop “Expert” reputation. Search relevant terms (e.g. “Search EngineOptimization”), answer questions, and add relevant links.
