Job 2

1Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves
before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before
the LORD. And the LORD said to Satan, !"rom where do yo# come$% Satan
answered the LORD and said, !"rom going to and fro on the earth, and from
wal&ing bac& and forth on it.% '(hen the LORD said to Satan, !)ave yo#
considered *y servant +ob, that there is none li&e him on the earth, a
blameless and #pright man, one who fears God and sh#ns evil$ And still he
holds fast to his integrity, altho#gh yo# incited *e against him, to destroy him
witho#t ca#se.% ,So Satan answered the LORD and said, !S&in for s&in- .es, all
that a man has he will give for his life. /0#t stretch o#t .o#r hand now, and
to#ch his bone and his flesh, and he will s#rely c#rse .o# to .o#r face-% 1And
the LORD said to Satan, !0ehold, he is in yo#r hand, b#t spare his life.% 2So
Satan went o#t from the presence of the LORD, and str#c& +ob with painf#l
boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. 3And he too& for
himself a potsherd with which to scrape himself while he sat in the midst of the
ashes. 4(hen his wife said to him, !Do yo# still hold fast to yo#r integrity$
5#rse God and die-% 160#t he said to her, !.o# spea& as one of the foolish
women spea&s. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept
adversity$% 7n all this +ob did not sin with his lips. 118ow when +ob9s three
friends heard of all this adversity that had come #pon him, each one came
from his own place:;lipha< the (emanite, 0ildad the Sh#hite, and =ophar the
8aamathite. "or they had made an appointment together to come and mo#rn
with him, and to comfort him. 1And when they raised their eyes from afar,
and did not recogni<e him, they lifted their voices and wept> and each one tore
his robe and sprin&led d#st on his head toward heaven. 1'So they sat down
with him on the gro#nd seven days and seven nights, and no one spo&e a word
to him, for they saw that his grief was very great.
