Ok, we have an agreement on a part of this then ... one doesn't have to know about something in order to make it work, which includes the processes used in thought, for many many many years its been misunderstood or left for a lot of superstition - but we use so many things today for which we don't fully understand but accomplish amazing things none the less.

Wouldn't it make sense then that to know what the component parts are of bad habits that one would at least be able to change something about them in order to not obsess about it?

I never assumed your post said it was the only way. But it seems to indicate that it is the first step. You can't say, "I am going to stop eating sugar before noon", and follow through on that notion, without first becoming Aware of your THOUGHT process leading you to the impulse to eat the sugar in the first place.

I think the validity to a habit being "good" or "bad" is subjective.
As far as leading to success... in what? It leads to self control, awareness, and insight. If you call that sucsess, then yes, I agree.

The post does not assume it's the only method or the only workable method - it just works!

So you agree that breaking bad habits does lead to success ... ?

As someone who has stopped many a bad habit, I can tell you that this article is fluff, at best.
To stop a bad habit, one needs more than to simply say "I will stop". Assuming someone can change by mere assertion, is not enough. The first step, which worked for me, was to say: I am not a slave to this thought or impulse! The rest of your suggestions then could help someone achieve their goals. Knowing, we are not the voice in our head that tells us to drink, do drugs, eat too much, etc., is the crucial first step.
Breaking things down into habits, or not... is an inaccurate way to gain control over our thought processes. Realizing that thought comes before action, is the true step to self control.
