THE HIDDEN

Scene 1
In a village, there lived a handsome and diligent young man called Jaka Tarub and his
father. One day, Jaka Tarub was going for a hunt with his friend.
hunting for a deer near the lake, he heard some giggles and laughs of some girls who were
bathing in the lake.
In the lake
Fairy 1 : Sisters, lets take a bath here!
Fairy 2 : Yeah, cmon! before the days getting hot.
(The fairies was taking a bath and joking together)
Meanwhile
JT : (peep through the bushes) What a beautiful girls!
(try to come closer and hit a twig) crack!
Fairy 3 : Whats that? Can you hear that?
Fairy 1 : Yeah, a human is drawing near. Go take your scarves, girls! Weve back to the
heaven right now.
The fairies hurriedly take their scarves but
NW : Wheres my scarf?! Sisters, do you see my scarf?
All fairies: No, whats wrong?
NW : I lost it.
(the fairies are looking for the scarf but they cant find it.)
After a moment
Fairy 2 : Were sorry, Wulan. We have to go back to kahyangan.
Fairy 3 : (in deep empathy) Youll have to find it by yourself. Well wait for you in kahyangan.
NW : But (mumbled)
All fairies: See you soon, Wulan (flying)

Scene 2
After Nawang Wulan left by her sisters, she started to cry. She didnt know what to do until
a young man, JT, approached her and asked her to live with him as she didnt have anyone there.
JT : (lurking) Excuse me, are you okay?
NW : (move backward) Who are you?!
JT : Be calm, my name is Jaka Tarub. I was passing by and I heard you crying, so I came to
see what happen. Well, what happened to you, Miss?
NW : Wulan, Im Nawang Wulan. I cant get home because I lost my scarf.
JT : Scarf? How cant you get back just because of that?
NW : Uhm
Nawang Wulan then told him about her problem.
JT : Would you stay in my hut tonight?
NW : No, no. I dont want to bother you and we dont know each other, your neighbor will
think about negative things about us.
At first, Nawang Wulan refused the offer. But since she didnt have anywhere else to go,
Nawang Wulan then decided to follow Jaka Tarub.

Scene 3
A month passed, and they decided to get married. Nawang Wulan was willing to marry a
human because she fell in love with Jaka Tarub. After a year, they had a beautiful daughter. They
named her Kumalasari.
Jaka Tarub was also happy to live with Nawang Wulan and Tawangsari. Especially
because he always got a lot of harvest since he married Nawang Wulan. He couldnt even keep
all of his harvest in the barn because it was always full.

Scene 4
One day
JT : (sit upon a bench on the terrace) Its so weird. Nawang Wulan cooked everyday, but
why is my barn always full.
NW : (come out from the house) My hubbie, dont you go to the farm?
JT : Oh, my wife no. I want to stay home today. Id like to play with Tawangsari.
NW : Well, Ill go to the river to wash the clothes. Please keep an eye on Tawangsari.
Women: (walk by) Wulaaan, cmon. Wed better go to the river now.
NW : (approach them) Wait a minute.
(look at JT again) And.. yeah, Im cooking rice now. Please do not open the pan cover
before its done
JT : OK. See you soon, dear.
After she left.
JT : (walk to the kitchen) Could this be the secret?
TS : Daddy would you accompany me to play it?
JT : Sure, Sari. But I must go to the kitchen, okay?
TS : Okay, Daddy! (happily)
To fulfill his curiosity JT went to the kitchen, wanted to open the pan cover. But TS was
following behind.
JT : (closer to the stove, almost open the pan cover)
TS : Dad, I heard your last conversation with momma before she left. Didnt she prohibit
you to open it?
JT : Oh, Sari! (surprised)
Daddy wants to check it, who know it is burned already?
Then, he found only one single paddy.
JT : (stare at the pan and scratching his hair) How come?!
(to TS) Come on, let me accompany you to play.
TS : Yeay! Lets play together, Daddy! (doing the E running)

Scene 5
Before lunch, Nawang Wulan came home. She headed to the kitchen to see the rice she
had cooked. She found that the rice turned into only a few grains.
NW : Jaka, Did you open the pan cover?
JT : I Im sorry. I was curious.
Ever since, Nawang Wulan had lost her power. She couldnt cook rice with only a single
paddy. Their paddy supply was slowly lessened. Their barn was almost empty. And in a sunny
morning
In the barn.
NW : Whats this? This is my scarf. Hmmpph.
At the night in the terrace after their child had slept.
NW : Kang Jaka, do you know this. (bring out the scarf)
JT : You found it? (with widened eyes)
NW : So since the moment I met you, you had knew about this, ugh? You hid it from me?
JT : I apologizes, Wulan. I (ask for her forgiveness)
NW : I forgive you, Kakang. But because Ive found my scarf, its time for me to go back to
where I belong.
JT : No, no. Please, dont go. How about Tawangsari? She needs you so much.
NW : Please take good care of Kumalasari. If she wanted to see me, take seven grains of
candlenut and put it into a basket. Shake it as you play the bamboo flute. Ill come to
see her. (ready to fly)
JT : No, Wulan dont leave me.. (said in blue)
I promise to be a better husband. I wont cheat on you anymore. Im sorry. I know I
was wrong but
NW : Ive forgiven you, so you dont have to feel guilty. I must go now. Take care.
