Abstract:
This study aims at identifying the key parameters of sustainable urban design inthe perspective of a developing city. The first part of the study introduces theterm sustainability and urban design to understand the word
sustainable urban design
in a very broad level. It also discusses the complex situation of adeveloping city which has to balance the rapid urban growth and long termsustainability and introduce the case study considered for the study, the city ofCalicut in South India.The second part of the study looks into various concepts of sustainability andsustainable urban design, as discussed by various experts and in variousinternational conferences.
