PAKIUSAP NG PALASYO SA DAP NA TINANGGAP NG MGA SENADOR

Ipaliwanag ninyo
Nina Christian V. Esguerra at Jerome Aning

Disbursement Acceleration
Program (DAP).
If you look at the beneficial effects of the DAP, how it
has profited and benefited the
people, do you think a loyalty

check is needed? sinabi ni

presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda kahapon sa isang
press briefing isang linggo
hangarin, ngunit maaaring

panagutin ang mga nagpatupad ng proyekto.

Sinabi ni Lacierda na it
would be in the best interest
of everyone to see how they
spent their funds if they did
receive the DAP.
Dinagdag pa niya: The use
of the DAP funds were meant
to primarily help the constituents, the countrymen. The
question now is: Did the senators misuse those funds?
Tinukoy pa niyang nilabas
na ni Senate President
Franklin Drilon kung paano
ginamit ang alokasyon nito.
Samantala, sinabi ni Lacierda na We will just wait for
the [time] when the President
will decide to speak on the
DAP.

Gift-giving becomes a whole-year affair

By Ben O. de Vera
BUSINESSES operating in a growing economy like the Philippines normally face
competition that
keeps on heating up
as more enterprises
set up shop to take advantage of a rise in
consumer spending.
To build customer

more companies resort to giving away
freebies and gifts allyear roundnot just
during the traditional Christmas season,
according to Raquel

which organizes the
annual Corporate

Giveaway Buyers
Show.
The bulk of corporate gift-giving is still
during Christmas, but
now it has become
steady throughout the
year. Before, we used
to have dry seasons,
but not anymore,
Romero said in an interview.
Since the economy
is doing better, companies orders of gifts
for clients have been
rising steadily, benefiting suppliers of gift
items.
In the case of the
Corporate Giveaways
show, the number of
suppliers participating
has been climbing the
past few years, and
this years staging will
be no exception, ac-

cording to organizers.

pegged at over 8,000,
Romero said.
Last years show,
she said, generated
about P200 million in
sales, orders and leads
for participating exhibitors.

which she attributed
to the rise in demand

The Nora revolution

WENCY Cornejo

NORA Aunor

By Dolly Anne Carvajal

HE controversy surrounding President Aquinos exclusion of actress

Nora Aunor from the roster of national artist honorees continues, and I
cant help writing a piece about it since
Ate Guy is like family to me.
My late mom (Inday Badiday) and Ate Guy were bosom
buddies. La Aunor was a permanent fixture in our home during
my formative years. If my mom
were still around, she would
definitely spearhead a Noranian
revolution until Malacaang reconsiders.
Oh, yeah! Ate Guy is an addictshes addicted to her craft.
Shame on those self-righteous, holier-than-thou people
who refuse to see La Aunors
true worth as an artist.
Show biz colleagues share
their sentiments on the issue:

Ryan Cayabyab
The President missed out on
that one. Noras stupendous
body of work says it all. She is
the peoples national artist.

Aiko Melendez
She deserves that recognition. Her personal life has nothing to do with her achievements. For many years now, she
has given so much pride to our
country. She has contributed
much to the entertainment industry.

Wency Cornejo
What do Paul McCartney
and David Bowie have in com-

mon? One, they both dabbled in

drugs during the most creative
phases of their musical careers.
Two, both musicians were
knighted by Queen Elizabeth II
despite their much-publicized
drug use in the past.
I dont understand why Noras past is an issue when its
her artistry that should be the
focus. Just give her the honor.
She shouldve been declared a
national artist long ago.

Rita Avila
Miss Nora Aunor is definitely
our countrys pride. Sadly, the
President has too much pride.

Cooky Chua
Theres no question about
the talent of Nora Aunor. She
has contributed immensely to
Philippine art and culture. I
thought the drug issue was too
shallow a reason to drop her
from the list of national artists.
I would have thought rumors
of unprofessionalism would
make a bigger impact, but even
that cannot cancel out the impact of her works.
I know that the time will
come when that honor will be
given to her. She is, in fact, a
national treasure.

Mr. Fu

AIKO Melendez

For me, Ate Guy deserves

that recognition. The drug case
should not have been an issue
at all. The selection of national
artists should be based on the
artists legacy and contribution
to his/her chosen field. Good

MR. Fu
thing they didnt give the honor
to (gay impersonator) Ate Gay,
who has no record of drug use.
Chos!

Dingdong Avanzado
Thats really the Presidents
discretion and we have to respect it. Personally, I think you
are bestowed the title primarily
for your contribution to the upliftment of the arts. While it
may be argued that Nora is not
an ideal role model, her great
works are simply hard to ignore. If it were up to me, Id
give her the title.

Human, apes
face off in war
of survival
TEN years after the Simian
Flu virus almost wiped out
mankind, a nation of apes is
thriving in director Matt
Reeves most awaited sci-fi
action of the year, Dawn of
the Planet of the Apes starring Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Gary Oldman and Andy
Serkis.
The apes live peacefully
in their own woodland territory, thinking humanity is
gone forever. Then, it turns
out there are virus-resistant
survivors, struggling to recover in a devastated San
Francisco. In this new world,
a tense stand-off develops,
one which leads to a potentially disastrous ape-versushuman conflict.
Human and ape have not
encountered each other for
years. This chapter of The
Planet Of The Apes series
concerns their first contact
since the pandemic and
that encounters fallout.
There is this question of coexistence, explains Reeves.
So, this is that one moment
when it could have been
Planet Of The Humans And
Apes. And thats what were
exploring in this story: how
that fell apart.
Dawn of the Planet of the
Apes (2D, 3D, 4DX) invades
more than 200 theatres nationwide on July 9 from
20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Beauty queen is Ateneos

new courtside reporter
LAURA Lehmann, 2014 Binibining
Pilipinas first runner up, adds another
achievement under her belt after securing the coveted spot as the Ateneo
de Manila Universitys newest courtside reporter for the University Athletic Association of the Philippines
(UAAP) 77th season.
Lehmann, 20, was
hand-picked among
hundreds of talented
hopefuls and will be
reporting on the sidelines at Studio 23
when UAAP opens on
July 12.
Beauty queen, Ateneo Psychology Major
and now a bonafide
sportscaster, Lehmann
expressed her excitement over her new
role. Im very excited
about being a UAAP
Courtside Reporter. I
love the passion, excitement and momentum that basketball
creates and I cant
wait to immerse myself in the sport!
My first love is
sports, and before
joining Binibining
Pilipinas in January, I
played on the Philippine National Team
for Fast-Pitch softball. I
just love being active-I
love to run or workout in any way that I
could, she added
Auditions were not
easy and Laura admitted she had a tough
time. It was so difficult! Besides being
very well-versed in the
game itself, we had to
be knowledgeable not
just about our own
teams, but also about
every other team in
the UAAP-including
history, record, coaches background, players info including
height, nicknames,
jersey numbers, positions, etc! We had to
make mini-manuals
that recorded all this
information, because
as reporters we are required to be informed

about the subjects we

report on, she
shared.
But Lehmann
showcased her intelligence, charm and
confidence and landed the job.
Asked about how
Lehmann will juggle
the three demanding
roles, she explained: I
will certainly need
good time-management skills to juggle all
three! But I think that
if youre passionate
about what youre do-

LEHMANN
ing, then that passion
will lead to drive, determination, and motivation to succeed.
Lehmann will be
busy with preparations as UAAP courtside reporter on the
lead up to the 77th

Season opening, and

will be receiving
sports casting training
from ABS-CBN. She is
also brushing up on
statistics and figures
of the Ateneo team,
reading up on UAAP
history and getting to
know the players.
Thankful and determined, Laura pulls
strength from her support group. I just
want to thank my
supporters for always
being that despite my
setbacks and failures.
I will work hard and
do my best to make
them proud, she said.

FIFA World Cup has gotten
the ball rolling - in every sense

excitement and loud cheers from
the crowd as teams from both

draft.
Nireklamo ni Rain or Shine

Aguinaldo Generals, 80-73.
Ito ang ikalawang sunod
panalo ng Chiefs na somosyo
sa liderato kasama ang San
Beda at Perpetual Help.
puntos at 10 rebounds,
samantalang may 11 puntos,
limang assists at anim rebounds si John Pinto.
There were distractions in
the endgame particularly
with the calls of the referee,

sabi ni Arellano coach Jerry

Codinera. We tried to keep a
positive attitude. The players
responded well.

Pasenya Roger; Novak kampeon

6-7 (7), 6-4, 7-6 (4), 5-7, 6-4
Linggo. Tumagal ng halos apat
oras ang palitan ng tira.
In a match like the one today, where I needed support,
they were there. I could sense
that they really wished me well

and hoped for me to either get

back in the match or hopefully
lift another trophy here at Wimbledon, ani Federer.
I already have seven. Its
not like I need another one,
dagdag ni Federer. But it
would have been awfully nice
to have it. I think thats what
the feeling was of the people,
and I felt that. Inquirer wires

Sigaw ng Germany: Laro ng Brazil madumi

PORTO SEGURO, Brazil Sa
I am all for a healthy hardness but some of Brazils fouls
were over the limit, sabi ni
Schweinsteiger. Brazilians are
not only football magicians,
hard tackling is part of their
game we have to be careful
and so does the referee.
Brazil is an outstanding
team that plays at the limit of

the allowed and will go over

the limit if necessary, sinabi ni
Germany assistant coach Hansi
Flick.
Its definitely a loss for
Brazil, Neymar has lived up to
expectations, but his absence
can unite the team more and
we expect a very strong opponent, sinabi ni Flick.
Sumang-ayon si Schweinsteiger at sinabing, We are all
very sad that Neymar is not

They are two coaches with
a lot of experience who have
both won the World Cup, sinabi pa ni Schweinsteiger. They
are clever coaches and you
need intelligent coaches to win
the title.
kanyang torn leg muscle.

Hinaing ng isang bading

DEAR Emily,
Ako ay isang beautician, gay, at 44 years old. Palagi
akong bigo sa mga naging relasyon ko. Nung araw,
masyadong conservative. At isa pa pala simba ako at
kanila meron akong natuklasan:
sila at gastusan.

garapal. Marami pa ring
malungkot sa ating mundo, at
naghahanap ng mga tulad mong
marunong magmahal.
Huwag kang mag-alala at isa
sa mga araw na ito ay may
makikilala ka rin na mabait at
talagang mamahalin ka. Hindi
lahat ay ahas at walang puso.
Sana.
