New Delhi: The Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (Aera) has
allowed Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) to increase
levies by at least 31% on domestic fliers as also international fliers
besides hiking the fees on all airlines for using the airport.
Domestic passengers will pay `342, up from `260, in user
development fee to the airport while international passengers will pay
as much as `1,368, up from `1,070, from 1 J uly.
The increases have been allowed at a time when the air traffic growth
has slowed to just 4% in 2013 on the back of higher airfares.
Aera has also allowed a significant increase in landing and parking
charges for airlines in its order issued on 10 J une and posted this on
its website. This is likely to increase the cost burden on all airlines.
The exact increase per flight was not immediately clear.
BIAL could not be reached immediately for comment.
Aera also allowed GVK Power and Infrastructure Ltd-run Bangalore Airport to charge `1,226 per international and `306 per domestic
passenger in the next fiscal year.
The rates determined herein are ceiling rates, exclusive of taxes, if any, Aera said.
The GVK Group holds a 43% stake in BIAL, Siemens Project Ventures GmbH 26% and Flughafen Zurich AG Ltd 5%, while
state-owned entities Airport Authority of India and Karnataka State Industrial Investment and Development Corp. Ltd hold 13%
each.
