Since Thou art the True Peace of God to
mankind, O Christ, Thou granted
Thy Peace to Thy Disciples after Thy
Resurrection when Thou saw them
frightened by what they thought to
be a spirit. But Thou removed the
anxiety of their souls when Thou
showed them Thy Hands and Feet;
and yet they still doubted. But when
Thou partook of food with them,
reminding them of Thy preaching,
Thou opened their minds to
understand the Scriptures. And
Thou made the Eternal Covenant
with them, Blessed them and then
Ascended into Heaven. Wherefore,
with them, we worship Thee. O
Lord, Glory be to Thee!

St El i a s ( El i j a h ) t h e Ti s bi t e & Ho l y Pr o p h e t
Saint Elias, who, being His Holy Prophet, had beheld God. He was a Miracle-worker
and a zealously faithful servant of God who was born of the Judean Tribe of
Aaron, and was from the town of Tishba, which is the reason he is entitled the
Tishbite.
When St Elias was born, his father, Savah, saw an Angel of God hovering around
the child, wrapping him in Fire and giving him a Flame to eat, which was a
foreshadowing of St Elias's fiery character and his God-given fiery Power.
He spent his entire youth in Godly Contemplation and Prayers, frequently
withdrawing into the wilderness to meditate and to pray in solitude.
At that time the Judean Kingdom was divided into two unequal parts: the Kingdom
of Judah consisting of only two Tribes - the Tribes of Judah and Benjamin - with
their capital in Jerusalem, and the Kingdom of Israel consisting of the
remaining ten Tribes with their capital in Samaria.
The first Kingdom was governed by the descendants of the great, wise King
Solomon and the second Kingdom was governed by the descendants of
Jeroboam, the servants of King Solomon.
The greatest confrontation that St Elias had to contend with was with the Israelite
King, Ahab, and his evil wife, Jezebel, who worshipped pagan idols and were
turning the people away from the One, True and Living God.
Before this, however, Jezebel, a Syrian, had persuaded her husband, King Ahab, to
erect a pagan temple to the Syrian god. Baal, and had ordered many priests
to serve this false, man-made god.
Through Great Miracles St Elias displayed the Majestic Power and Authority of God:
he closed up the heavens, so that there was not a drop of rain for three years
and six months; through his Prayers to God, a Heavenly Fire ignited and burnt
the sacrificial offerings to Almighty God, which the pagan priests of Baal were
unable to do; he brought down rain from heaven by his Prayers to God; he
miraculously multiplied flour and oil in the home of the widow in Zerepath, and
resurrected her son from the dead; he prophesied to King Ahab that dogs
would lick his blood while they would consume Jezebels flesh.
All his prophesies proved to be true, and he continued to perform many other
Divine Miracles and made innumerable prophecies by Divine Grace and the
Will of God.
On Mount Horeb, he spoke with God and heard the Voice of God in the calm of a
gentle breeze.
Before his death St Elias took his Disciple, St Elisha, and designated him as his
successor as a Holy Prophet of God.
With his mantle, St Elias divided the running waters of the Jordan river and, finally,
he was taken up into Heavens in a Fiery Chariot that was drawn by Flaming
Horses.
At the Transfiguration of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, St Elias appeared on
Mount Tabor together with St Moses (representing the Holy Prophets and the
Divine Law of God.)
Before the end of this fallen world, St Elias the Great Holy Prophet of God will
appear again to put an end to the power of the anti-Christ, according to the
Revelation of Christ the Apocalypse. (REVELATION, CHAPTER 11).

...And they told about the things that
had happened on the road, and how
Jesus was known to them by the
breaking of the bread.
Now as they said these things, Jesus
Himself stood in the midst of them,
and said to them: Peace to you!
They were terrified and frightened, and
thought they had seen a spirit.
And He said to them: Why are you
troubled? And why do doubts arise
in your hearts? Behold My Hands
and My Feet, that it is I, Myself.
Handle Me and see, for a spirit does
not have flesh and bones as you
can see I have.
When He had said this, He showed
them His Hands and His Feet.
Yet since they still did not believe for
Joy, and Marvelling, He said to
them:Have you any food here?
So they gave Him a piece of broiled fish
and some honeycomb. And He took
it and ate in their presence.
Then He said to them:, These are the
words which I spoke to you while I
was still with you, that all things
must be fulfilled which were written
in the Law of Moses and the
Prophets and the Psalms
concerning Me.
And He opened their Understanding, so
that they might comprehend the
Scriptures.
Then He said to them: Thus it is
written, and thus it was necessary
for the Christ to suffer and to rise
from the dead the third day, and
that Repentance and Remission of
sins should be preached in His
Name to all Nations, beginning at
Jerusalem. And you are Witnesses
of these Things. Behold, I send the
Promise of My Father upon you; but
remain in the city of Jerusalem
until you are endued with Power
from on High.
