Actavis confirmed today that it has informed employees that it will close the legacy Forest Laboratories Earth City, Missouri facilities effective June 2015. This decision affects approximately 190 employees in distribution/logistics, packaging, resource planning, quality, purchasing; information technology; research and development; human resources; finance and trade sales. The decision affects both facilities. The decision to close the Earth City facilities follows a thorough review of manufacturing capacities and capabilities over our global supply chain and production network, as well as an extensive analysis of our current and future product portfolios. A rigorous integration planning process was initiated following the announcement of the acquisition of Forest Laboratories by Actavis in February of this year. The acquisition closed on July 1, 2014. Teams from both companies looked at all of the assets of the combined organization, in order to make the best decisions possible about how to structure the new company to be an efficient and nimble competitor in the complex and rapidly changing global pharmaceutical environment. As we progressed through the integration planning process we have defined the overlap in the functions that previously supported two separate businesses as well as facilities that could be consolidated following the close. It became clear that the operations at our two facilities in Earth City are duplicated in other areas within the larger combined company. Today we announced that warehousing and distribution related activities at Earth City will be moved to Actavis facilities, principally the Actavis Gurnee, Illinois distribution center. This transition will begin immediately, and we expect to complete this phase of the Earth City closure before the end of this year.
