Australia: History pre-1788: Kamilaroi, Gamilaraay, Gunnedah. Gambu Ganuuru or 'Red Kangaroo', an Aboriginal war leader of the 18th Century, appears in Idriess's novella "The Red Chief" [1953]. Here are published the source documents, 'The Ewing Manuscripts'. They contain oral history collected by Police Sergeant J P Ewing (1829-1911) of Gunnedah NSW.
