221. DRESS AND GROOMING1. Purpose The Board recognizes that each student's mode of dress and grooming is amanifestation of personal style and individual preference.2. AuthoritySC 1317.3Title 22Sec. 12.11The Board has the authority to impose limitations on students' dress in school. TheBoard will not interfere with the right of students and their parents/guardians tomake decisions regarding their appearance, except when their choices disrupt theeducational program of the schools or constitute a health or safety hazard.Title 22Sec. 12.11Students may be required to wear certain types of clothing while participating inphysical education classes, technical education, extracurricular activities, or othersituations where special attire may be required to ensure the health or safety of thestudent.3. Delegation of ResponsibilityThe building principal or designee shall be responsible to monitor student dress andgrooming, and to enforce Board policy and school rules governing student dress andgrooming.Title 22Sec. 12.11The Superintendent or designee shall ensure that all rules implementing this policyimpose only the minimum necessary restrictions on the exercise of the student's tasteand individuality.Pol. 325, 425, 525 Staff members shall be instructed to demonstrate, by example, positive attitudestoward neatness, cleanliness, propriety, modesty, and good sense in attire andappearance.4. GuidelinesSC 1317.3Students are subject to the following dress code and personal appearance code:1.
 
Clothing displaying and/or promoting drug use, alcohol, tobacco products,sexual innuendoes, profane gestures or profanity is not acceptable.2.
 
Clothing which is revealingly tight, revealingly torn, or revealingly tattered isunacceptable.
