Knife related crime up 25%across the boroughLib Dems call for 10,000 morePolice across the country

Call time on crime
Lib Dem prospective MP, TamLangley, is calling for a huge boostto police numbers, to tackle the risein violent crime in Lewisham. In the past year knife crime hasrisen 25% according to figuresreleased by the Labour-run Council.Statistics from the MetropolitanPolice show 770 violent crimes in asingle month across the borough.Tam says, “People keep on tellingme how worried they are aboutviolent crime in Lewisham. Far toomany teenagers are victims of muggings or assaults. As a parentmyself I sympathise with parentsI’ve met locally who worry abouttheir kids going to and fromschool.”Tam has worked on cutting crimewith some of Britain’s top experts. She said, “It’s important that wedon’t give in to the fear of crime, there is a real problem herethat we need to deal with. That’s why the Lib Dems are callingfor 10,000 more police across the country. We would pay forthis with the money saved by scrapping Labour’s ID cardscheme.”“Labour have passed thousands of laws instead of addressingthe root causes of crime or recruiting enough police to cut crime. It’s the police, not plastic, that cut crime,” Tam added.
Former Police chief, Brian Paddick, discusses Lewisham’s crime figures withLib Dem prospective MP, Tam Langley.

Meet Max Calò
Max Calò is a Lib Demcampaigner in LewishamCentral ward. We find out abit more about him...
Max Calò lives with his wife and theirdaughter in central Lewisham and haslived in the area for over 10 years.By profession, Max is a cartoonist andgraphic artist. He always has asketchbook in his pocket and loves todraw people and places.During the time he’s lived in the area,Max has had a big impact on thecouncil and the local community.Max is known by many locally as theperson who helped save LadywellPool. Max was at the forefront of thecampaign, organising public meetings, petition tables and mass lobbying of the council and ultimately leading thecampaign to victory. Max has beeninvolved with a number of other localinitiatives too. Most recently he kick-started the campaign for an Arts andCommunity centre in Hither Green. He's greatly concerned with the lack of spaces for the community andopportunities for the differentgenerations to connect with eachother.Max also thinks that the focus of Lewisham council should be towardsbuilding a functioning local economy.“If there were more people around, working during the day, local cafeswould be able to sell more lunches, streets would be safer andopportunities for local employmentwould strengthen bonds through thecommunity.”“We must stop focusing onresidential development, andbalance our suburban nature of thecommuter belt. What started as avocation has become a condition andmust be cured,” says Max.Max writes about local issues on hisblog, almost daily. He says you're allvery welcome to log on and leave acomment.
I / we the undersigned call on the Government to recruit 10,000 extra UK Police to patrol our streets. This should be paid for with the money saved from scrapping plans for ID cards.
