STORY
In a ceremony ofciated by AMISOM 'eputy Police !ommissioner&
!ommissioner "enson Oyo#$ye%o& the outgoing Formed Police Unit
2FPU3 personnel from Ugandan +ere a+arded medals and
certi-cates in recognition of their outstanding performance during
their one#year term of ser*ice.
(he e*ent too% place at the Mogadishu Stadium& +hich is currently
the head4uarters of the AMISOM Police Unit& and +as attended by
senior representati*es from the Somali Police Force 2SPF3 as +ell as
AMISOM)s military component.
Spea%ing to the ofcers& the 'eputy !ommissioner applauded the
outgoing FPU)s
contribution to the mission since they -rst 5oined on 67 8uly 69:;&
and assured them that their e<orts to free Somalia of instability +ill
be carried on by their successors.

>onor parade& and 'emo#=roup demonstrations of public order
management techni4ues among other displays of uni4ue s%ills.
(he 'eputy Police !ommissioner also praised the close +or%ing
relationship AMISOM police ha*e en5oyed +ith the Somali Police
Force 2SPF3& and emphasi,ed that good relationship has been a
ma5or contributing factor to all the success they ha*e registered.
$arrating her e0perience in Somalia& Ocan /ucy $ighty +ho has
been ser*ing as a $ursing Ofcer said she +as grateful for the
opportunity to help as Somalia stri*es for peace.

(his +as the second medal a+ard ceremony for the Ugandan FPUs
deployed in AMISOM. (his particular unit of :?9 personnel 5oined the
mission in 69:;. Some of their +or% during their tenure has included
training& mentoring and operational support to the SPF& @IP
protection& maintenance of public security& public order
management& 5oint patrols +ith the Somali police and army& among
others.
