Appointing as a Safety officer of a Construction site, though the work environment vary,the

ultimate goal and responsibility is to ensure the Health & Safety of the Team members, weather
it is the own companys employees or the employees of the Sub contractors and various other
outside parties. Ensuring Safety & Health in any type of site condition whether it is practical or
impractical, safety of the Manpower, Plant and Equipment is to be ensured at all times.
Identification of hazard
First and foremost, as a safety officer it is needed to identify all hazards in the construction
worksite and noted. Whether it is a Major or Minor all Health hazards, Safety hazards and Sever
hazards are to be properly identified prior to start or execution of any site activity.These hazard
identification can be e done right from the beginning, when the designs are done. However, site
based safety officers interaction with the design team is very minimal the chances of involving in
this phase is quite seldom. The hazard identification can be done either by a direct observation
or either examining previous records or interacting co workmen in identifying the hazards.
Hazard identifications, shall not be limited only to the pre-contract phase but also to be carried
out during the works being progressing at site, which shall be done by using workplace
observation techniques such as inspections, audits and safety walkabouts etc and to be
properly recorded for further assessment.
