Iron Man - Week #4
1 Timothy 6:6-12 -
A devout life does bring wealth, but it's the rich simplicity of being yourself beforeGod. Since we entered the world penniless and will leave it penniless, if we have bread on the table andshoes on our feet, that's enough. But if it's only money these leaders are after, they'll self-destruct in notime. Lust for money brings trouble and nothing but trouble. Going down that path, some lose their footingin the faith completely and live to regret it bitterly ever after. But you, Timothy, man of God: Run for your life from all this. Pursue a righteous life—a life of wonder, faith, love, steadiness, courtesy. Run hard andfast in the faith. Seize the eternal life, the life you were called to, the life you so fervently embraced in the presence of so many witnesses.
MixerChoose a character that is still alive from this movie and talk about how you think this character will be different in the next movie? Think about how Tony Stark’sconversion into seeking justice has impacted their life?Going Deeper1.) Consider Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridge’s character) What is this character’smotivation in the film?
The obvious answer to the first question is jealousy or greed. All of these things essentially stem from a lustful or covetous heart.
Is he a bad person?
(No. Not as one made in God’s image, but he does bad- a lot)
What makes him “gobad”? Ever feel that same pressure in your life? Where?

2.) Re-read the 1Timothy verse again as a group. Where do you see connectionsbetween Obadiah Stane’s character and the warnings of the passage? What aboutTony Stark? Could you make the case that he is an example of one who “pursuesthe righteous life,” describes in verse 12?
(Could be a cool exercise to take each of thecategories listed by Paul and look for some ways Tony Stark is living toward them. Hereone you could discuss:-
 Righteousness
(this is not personal moral do-gooding it is better described as “being onGod’s side” of things as God sets things to right in Jesus. Being righteous is like being part of the family.)
How does Tony act in ways that would get him accused of beingon God’s side? How about you?3.) Read this passage from Paul’s letter to the Corinthians
:
2 Corinthians 3:1-2
Since God has so generously let us in on what he is doing, we're not about to throw up our hands and walk off the job just because we run into occasional hard times. We refuse to wear masks and play games. Wedon't maneuver and manipulate behind the scenes. And we don't twist God's Word to suit ourselves. Rather,we keep everything we do and say out in the open, the whole truth on display, so that those who want tocan see and judge for themselves in the presence of God.
