“Every individual is like an unpolished gem. You need time and effort to make it worth.”
Hi to all, welcome to SP Rovers’ Campfire: A Night In The Village 2008! Thank you for being here to witness thegrowth of the only polytechnic Rovers in Singapore.I was appointed to be the club’s Rovers Scout Leader in November 2007. My role in the troop is to serve allRovers in the club as a servant leader. My vision is to develop every individual to be of good character and moralvalues. Moving forward, I’ve taken a huge step to expand the Rovers Scout Leader Council (RSLC), from a 2-menteam to an 8-person committee. I hereby thank them for stepping out of their comfort zone and assisting me inbringing the club to a higher platform.I’d like to extend my invitation to all leaders to attend our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 29Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 29Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 29Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 29

But in our view, we have learnt only one thing:
Brotherhood of openair and service
. That is the Rover motto and with every step of the way, we merge, form bonds and unite as oneto face the challenges that may come our way.We are proud of where our crew has come today, and without constant support from the leaders and alumnus,we will not have tasted what we have been hungering for months: success. If Lord Baden Powell has taught us something, it is about family. Scouting is like a family, a network of closely

connected relations. SP Rovers has learnt to strengthen our “ohana” bonds, regardless of age and status. Webelieve that the Scouting community can achieve the same.It is all about giving and taking, helping one another in need—that’s family. So cheers to our big family, dearestBrothers and Sisters in Scouting!SP Rover Sea Scout CrewSP Rover Sea Scout CrewSP Rover Sea Scout CrewSP Rover Sea Scout Crew © 2008© 2008© 2008© 2008The Black Grand MasqueradeThe Black Grand MasqueradeThe Black Grand MasqueradeThe Black Grand Masquerade 2007200720072007Ever been to a formal dinner and dance party? Well, heres the catch: Our crew holds a grand bi-annualappreciation dinner and dance event for all our current and alumni crew members! Even those who graduatedway back into 1998 came by!Last year’s theme settled upon ‘The Masquerade’, where all the young (and the old) got dressed in their moststunning black outfits, with their gorgeous looks hidden behind an assortment of pretty masks.Close to a hundred crew members attended this self-planned and self-hosted event, dedicated to all of us forpumping so much hard work and effort into the crew.A selection of 24 alumni members were also awarded a special appreciation gift (beautifully handmadepersonalised glasses) by the committee members as an expression of gratitude for all their contributions to ourcrew events and activities. Here are just a handful of all the party goers for the night (and all dressed in black):

Most crews only accept Rovers at the age of 18, but beingthe only polytechnic crew in Singapore, you can become a Rover at the age of 17 here at SP Rovers!BTC at SP Rovers started in 1981 with 71 trainees and over time, the crew grew to more than 500 membersduring the 1980s.Subsequently, another camp known as the Annual Camp surfaced. The highlight of the camp is the legendary
Bapok Night.

Bapok Night
is the night where the limelight falls upon the men of our crew. So, what are the rules of the game?Well, the ladies bring the clothes while the men dress up in them. And that is the only occasion when the ladiesget to tease the men all they want!So how much fun did we actually have? Let us just say, we show better than we tell.A Scout Smiles And Whistles Under All CircumstancesA Scout Smiles And Whistles Under All CircumstancesA Scout Smiles And Whistles Under All CircumstancesA Scout Smiles And Whistles Under All CircumstancesAhoy! Greetings to all my Brothers and Sisters! I turn 19 this year and unknowingly, I have been scouting for 9years of my life. I started Scouting in SP Rovers. It was my elder brother who introduced Scouting to me and itbecame my passion. Years after, I enrolled into secondary school and joined the Peirce Secondary School Scout Troop. That waswhen Scouting started to become the center of my life. The troop gave me the opportunities to realise my potentials, build my character and to help others achieve thesame. But I left the troop after graduating from secondary school. People asked me why I did not stay to help asan alumni member. I told them people just come and go.Gradually, I transited from the troop to SP Rovers. During my first year in polytechnic, Scouting was non-existentin my life. I felt as though something was missing. It was only when I passed on to my second year that I joinedSP Rovers as a member. At the beginning, I felt like I was just another unimportant person in the crew. However, the crew proved me wrong. Everyone Rover in the crew was important. Now, I feel at home with thecrew because Scouting is my life once again. The crew plays, suffers, works and celebrates as one. No matter
