As Sundari -antra AHB is a Srikula K kAdi krama -antra= swar'AkarSha'a 4hairava= descri4ed as an
anga here= would pertain to kAdi Sho(ashI. sundarI tantra teaches anga rAhitya for panchadashI.
swar'AkarSha'a 4hairava is descri4ed as one of the primary angas of Srividya AkAdi B in
dattAtreya samhitA A,hapter <NB. e is a part of the #ashmimala= among the chintAma'i traya A8B.
"y Sampradaya= swar'AkarSha'a 4hairava is one of the si3teen angas of sAdi vidyA
saptadashAkSharI.
-he upAsanA of 4hairava involves= along with mantra japa and Avara'a p1jA= recitation of mAlA=
sahasranAma AMB= aSh-ottara= kavacha= stavarAja and rdaya. -he details of these however have to
4e received directly from oneEs &uru.
'otes/
A<B mahAlakShmI is descri4ed as serving the $ord in various dhyAna shlokas of this "hairava. -he
swar'AkarSha'a aSh-ottara includes several names such as/ mahAlakShmyarchitapada=
ramAp1jitapAdA4ja= vaiku'-hashrIsamAshrita etc. Mahalakshmi and Madhumati are the two
anga vidyas of Sri Swarnakarshana "hairava. Swarnakarshana "hairava -antra Awhich most
possi4ly is a part of the 4igger shaiva Agama= mahapanchAkSharI tantra= also housing other smaller
tantras such as chidam4ara tantraB descri4es a story where Mahalakshmi lost her powers due to a
curse 4y Sri Sri (urvasa "hattaraka and worshipped "hairava at avimukta kShetra to regain her
powers.
ADB -he particular form of mantra descri4ed in sundarI tantra seems to 4e the version used popularly
4y shrIvidyA upasakas. For some reason= this mantra is pu4lished in hundreds of corrupted forms in
various manuals and these corruptions can hardly 4e dismissed as pA-hAntaras. -here are two
other forms of mantra= one from an unknown source Iuoted in AmnAya kalpalatA Acopied as is in
later works such as Amnaya Mantra Sangraha= Saparya Paddhati= $alitarchana ,handrika etc.B and
the other from skanda yAmala in the vanadurgA mahAvidyA prakara'a. -hough the mantra
descri4ed in the conte3t of mahAvidyA is different= most upAsakas seem to use the first and the
popular version during recitation of panchashatI:saptashatI. -he only sampradAya which seems to
use skandayAmala as pramA'a is that of ;alyanananda "harati of Andhra (esha. -hey use a
mi3ture of vanadurgopaniShad and kalpa kaustu4ha Aof #udrayamalaB for the m1la pA-ha of
mahAvidyA panchashati 4ut utiliRe the angaKvidyA krama of Skanda .amala. %f course= everything
said 4y ;alyanananda "harati has to 4e consumed with a pinch of salt and sometimes pepper too*
A>B -he worship of swar'AkarSha'a 4hairava is chiefly for prosperity and sudden financial gains
4ut that is not the sole 4enefit of this upAsanA. e is also an ApaduddhAra'a m1rti who destroys
hindrances and protects the upAsaka. Swarnakarshana "hairava= famed to 4e stationed in
,hidam4aram in the service of Sri ,hitasa4hapati and Sri Shivakamasundari= is descri4ed as
4hairavo viSh'ur1paka in ,hidam4ara -antra. e is thus identified as nonKdifferent from
Srimannarayana. e is further descri4ed as a com4ination of samkarSha'a and 4hairava swarupas
of 'arayana and Mahadeva respectively. (ue to sattva prAdhAnya= his mantra is considered ok to
4e given to women Asu4stituting the pra'ava with ramA 4IjaB initiated into Srividya as women are
prohi4ited from o4taining the mantra of va-uka 4hairava AhamsamAheshwara= rudrayAmala etcB
.owever= upAsana of swar'AkarSha'a 4hairava mantra has to 4e undertaken only under the
direct guidance of Sadguru as the mantra activates kuh1 nA(i and malfunctioning of this nAdI can
cause irrepara4le damage to a person. kuh1 functions towards ejaculation and its a4use can push
the consciousness into netherworlds.
AHB sundarI tantra is descri4ed in the list of -antras speltout in vArAhI tantra. Another list= in yet
another -antra= speaks of a -ripurasundarI -antra. Some hold these two -antras to 4e the same. "ut
Sri &opinath ;avirajKji writes somewhere that the two are independent -antras. Sundari -antra is
availa4le almost completely.
A8B -he chintAma'i traya includes/ swar'AkarSha'a 4hairava= ardhanArIshwara chintAma'i and
chintAma'i ganapati.
AMB I have not personally seen the sahasranAma of swar'AkarSha'a 4hairava anywhere 4ut have
heard a4out the e3istence of one such sahasranAma in the possession of &anapati Sacchidananda
Swami of Mysore. Also= in the uttara pI-hikA of the Swarnakarshana rdaya= there is a clear
indication of the e3istence of such a Sahasranama.
AGB Sri Swarnakarshana "hairava= like (attatreya is -rim1rtyAtmaka. Sri Swarnakarshana
"hairava= "hagavan Sri Shuddha (akshinamurti= Sri (attatreya= "hagavan Sri 'rsimha and
"hagavan Sri 1cchishta Maha &anapati are said to 4e the five trim1rtyAtmaka m1rtis worshipped
in the 1rdhwAmnaya of kAdi krama -antra. !ven outside the realms of the Srividya ;rama -antra=
they are descri4ed to 4e trim1rtyAtmaka.
