There is a rich, rich history behind the Stilring engine models mentioned and particularly the LTD (low temperature differential) ones which is overlooked in this paper (I am part of that history). I was startled to see a signature design element of the seminal developer of LTD engines, Dr.Jim Senft, featured on one of Jos's engines; that is a clear acrlic flywheel with a single opaque disc on the periphery to show that it is indeed revolving. The first one was built in 1974. I would welcome a private discussion with the author, in email or on the phone.
