HOMEMADE SOLAR FUNNEL COOKER
Supplies (Unavyohitaji)
1. 1 cardboard box (at least 2 feet x 4 feet when flat) katoni 1, lenye angalau upana wa futi 2
kwa urefu wa futi 4, kama limenyooshwa/tandazwa. ( Hakikisha upana wake uwe nusu wa
urefu hasa.
3. Glue (water based) gundi iliyochanganywa na maji
4. 1 bowl to mix glue with 50% water bakuli ya kuchanganya gundi na 50% maji
5. Duct tape tapi
6. 1 cooking pot with a lid sufuria moja ambayo ina kifuniko
8. 1 block of wood (about 4 inches x 4 inches x 2 inches) kipande kimoja cha ubao ( takriban
inchi 4 kwa 4 kwa 2)
9. Some newspapers: to cover the ground, and also to use as a paintbrush magazeti
yatakayotandazwa chini sakafuni na kutumiwa kama brashi
10. 1 clear plastic bag large enough for the cooking pot not to touch the sides mfuko wa
plastic uliyo angavu (unaoweza kuona vilivyomo) iliyo kubwa kuliko sufuria ndio isiweze kuguza
pande za sufuria
11. 1 rubber band elastiki/raba bandi
12. 4 feet of twine or string (exactly the length of the length of the box) uzi wowote unaolingana
13. Knife or scissors kisu au makasi
14. Pen or pencil kalamu
15. 2 people watu wawili
1

1. Cut box open and flatten it.
Kata katoni ili ulifungue na kulinyoosha/kulitandaza.

2. Make your box at least 4 feet long and 2 feet wide.
unavyohitaji nambari 1).

3. Use the string to measure the box if you fold the
string in half its 2 feet long.
Tumia uzi kupima katoni. Ikiwa urefu wa uzi ni futi 4
kulingana na katoni, ukiukunja mara mbili, utakuwa futi 2.
(Usikate uzi)

4. Use the folded string to make the width exactly
half of the length.
Tumia uzi kupima urefu kisha ukunje uzi ili upana uwe
nusu ya urefu hasa.

5. Use duct tape to tape all the flaps and holes
together on both sides so the box is a solid piece.
Tumia tapi kuunginisha vipande vya katoni
lililotandazwa/nyooshwa flati.

6. Fold the string in half. Mark the center of the box
along the bottom.
Kunja uzi uwe nusu mbili. Tia alama katikati ya urefu wa
kartoni upande wa chini.

7. Fold the string in half. Hold the looped end with
one hand, and use the string to measure the width
(diameter) of the bottom of your pot.
Kunja uzi uwe nusu mbili.
sufuria. (Usikate uzi)

8. Hold the string in the same place with one hand,
and put your hand on the mark on the box.
Kwa mkono mmoja, shikilia uzi kwenye sehemu moja,
kisha tia mkono mwingine kwyeny alama uliyotia kwenye
katoni.

9. Put a pen in the loop, and pull the string tight. Use
it to draw a half-circle on the box.
uzi. Ukiwa umeshikilia hivyo, chora nusu duara kwyeny
katoni.

10. Cut out the half circle.
Kata mchoro wa nusu duara uliochora.

11. Decide which side of the box is the outside. Using
a knife, LIGHTLY score lines into the box like the rays
of the sun. This will help the box bend into a funnel
more easily. But dont cut too deep, because it can
ruin the box.

12. Turn the box over.
Pindua katoni upande mwingine

13. Using a round long object (like a broom handle,
stick, or your arm), roll the box on the lines so it
makes a funnel shape. This will make it easier to
bend later.
(funnel).

14. Mix the glue with water in equal parts. Crumple a
piece of newspaper to use as a brush.
Changanya gundi na maji nusu- nusu (Tia gundi kwenye
bakuli hadi ifike nusu. Kisha tiam maji ili bakuli ijae kisha
uchanganye ili kuunda gundi) Kunja-kunja gazeti na
uilitumie kama burashi (brush).

15. Measure how high on the box the aluminium foil
can go, leaving 2 inches extra on the edge and at the
bottom.

16. With one person gluing on the box, making sure
to glue to the edges, the second person rolls out the
aluminium foil onto the box, making sure to flatten it
down as you go.
Wakati Mtu mmoja anapaka gundi kwenye katoni
(ahakikishe gundi imefikia miisho/ncha zote), mwenzake
afuatilie akitandaza karatasi ya aluminiam foil juu ya
katoni (ahakikishe imetandazwa sawasawa juu ya katoni).

17. Try not to let the foil crease, and dont get any
glue on the foil facing up. (foil has two sides, a very
shiny side and a less shiny side. The less shiny side
will end up facing the sun)
isiyongara. Upande usiongara zaide unafaa uangalie juu (ndio umulikwe na jua).

18. Repeat what you did on the bottom across the top, leaving 2 extra inches as
below.

19. Make sure to apply the glue straight and to the edges, but try not to get glue on
the foil that will show.

20. Wait for the glue to dry.
Ngojea hadi gundi ikauke.

21. Turn the box over on a FLAT, DRY surface,
so the aluminium doesnt get torn.
Pindua katoni uiweke mahali pakavu na kwenye
sakafu ilionyooka (ikiwezekana iwe meza au
tandaza magazeti kwenye sakafu) ili kratasi ya
aluminium isiraruke.

22. Cut the aluminium foil inside the half-circle
leaving about 2 inches extra foil.
Kata karatasi ya aluminiam iliyomo ndani ya nusu
duara ukiacha nchi 2 zaidi.

23. Cut lines in the half-circle so you can bend the aluminium foil back.

22

24. Glue the foil down to the edges of the box.
jua.

Glue EVERYTHING to EVERYTHING (foil to foil, the corners to each other, and in the
half-circle as well)

25. Bring the bottom edges of the box together so that you form a circle, and overlap
them about 1 inch.
Leta pamoja miisho/incha za katoni upande wa chini ili kuunda duara halafu unganisha
takribani inchi 1.

26. With one person holding the top and bottom of the box, the second person puts a
piece of tape down the outside of the seam, and 3-4 pieces across the seam.

Now What? Sasa Ufanye Nini?

A. Dig a hole in the garden in a funnel shape about
18 inches deep to keep the funnel from blowing over

B. Paint the outside of your pot and the top of the lid
black with the blackboard paint.

C. Put the solar funnel in the hole.
Tia faneli ya jua kwenye shimo.

D. Put the block of wood in the plastic bag.

E. Put the bag with the block of wood in the solar
funnel.

F. Put your food in your sufuria with the lid on,
exactly like you would if you were cooking over a fire.

7
G. Put the sufuria in the bag, balanced on the wood
so its not touching the ground, or the edges of the
solar funnel.
Tia sufuri ndani ya mfuko, ukihakikisha umetulia vizuri
katikati ya ubao, ili usiguse sakafu wala ncha/miisho ya
faneli ya solar.

H. Inflate the bag by blowing into it, so the pot isnt
touching anything except the block of wood.
ubao.

I. Twist the end of the bag closed, fold it over and
rubber band it shut.
aluminium umeangalia juu, tumia mikono yako (usiguze
mviringo mwingine mdogo.

J. Set the bag with the pot gently into the solar funnel cooker by 11 am. Your food will
be cooked by about 1:00.
(11:00am). Chakula chako kitakuwa tayari saa saba za mchana (1:00pm)
