PASTORAL PERSPECTIVE
By the time you have received this issue of the
Epistle
, we will begathering on Sunday April 30 to celebrate the completion of our
Forty Days of Community.
When we began this pilgrimage wedidn’t know just how things would work out. Would it be too muchfor us to do? Would we click in our groups? Would we be able toraise the money needed to furnish the youth center at the Pines of Perinton. The planning team consisting of Kelly Weidman, ToniThompson, Bill Harris and myself - we were enthusiastic, but wewondered….Well, I’m happy to say that our dreams have been realized and thatit was a more than successful
Forty Days of Community
. Reports back from the groups make it clear that it was a good experienceall around. There was learning and fellowship and outreach. Rick Warren, in his video lectures sparked conversation. There wasagreement and disagreement; but it enabled us to talk about thingsthat we might not have talked about before. Friendships were madeand others strengthened. We came to know one another in a deeper way than we can on a Sunday morning. Finally our hard work onour outreach project has borne fruit. Our goal has been made andthere will be a completely furnished youth center at the Pines. On Sunday April 30, we will worship and celebrate together. Therewill be guests such as merchants and others who have contributed.Hopefully we will have greetings from our local elected officialsand Len Statham from the Partners in Community Development atthe Pines will speak. During the sermon time, each group willmake a brief witness as to what this meant for them. It will be anexciting and spirit lifting time for all of us.
