The First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, Metropolitan Philaret of blessed memory +1985, was the most outspoken Hierarch in the Orthodox Church to condemn the heresy of ecumenism.

These three epistles were addressed to the Primates of the Holy Orthodox Churches throughout the world, imploring them to study the subject of the letters and to rise up in defense of the purity of the Orthodox Faith, so threatened by participation in the ecumenical movement.
