little rubber ducks will start racing down the Feeder Canal at

lice vehicles and fire trucks, a corn box, craft activities and piatas.
New this year will be the Roaming Railroad, a trackless train that

MUSIC FROM SALE CONCERTS: Aug 2 Brahms as
Protg and Master Johannes Brahms is featured as the focal
point of this concert. In addition to Brahms Piano Trio No. 2, we
will also present the lovely Scenes from Fairytales for clarinet,
viola and piano by Schumann, who, towards the end of his career,
became a mentor and benefactor of Brahms, and String Quartet
No. 3 by Dohnnyi, a great admirer of Brahms' music who became
known as the Hungarian Brahms. Also on the program is a quartet
by Webern for a rarely heard combination of saxophone, clarinet,
violin, and piano. Encore "Crossing Borders" performance Aug 3
at Park-McCullough in N. Bennington, VT Aug 9 Celebrating
Quarts and Quints This very unusual concert features not only
two string quartets (by Mozart and Glazunov), but two piano quin-
tets; the searching and sensuous late quintet by Faur and a new
quintet by Boston-based Thomas Oboe Lee, written especially for
Music from Salem and the Martha's Vineyard Chamber Music
Society. Join us to delight in fine musicians and luscious sounds.
Young Italian violin soloist, Marcus Placci, returns to Music from
Salem, as well as the venerable Dolores Stevens who has pre-
miered countless piano and chamber music works, and served on
juries for the Grammy awards. There will be encore performances
Aug 10 at Park-McCullough, and Aug 11 & 12 on Martha's Vine-
yard. Music from Salem is a unique organization, where the musi-
cians work and live together for a week, and the caliber of the
playing and quality of interpretation is amazing.

ROMEO AND JULIET- Hubbard Hall is bringing their produc-
tion of Romeo and Juliet to the Georgi on the Battenkill Museum
and Park. This fun, fast-paced Romeo and Juliet, directed by
Hubbard Halls new Executive Director David Snider, will bring
the world of the play to vibrant life in ten beautiful settings. With
minimal props and costumes, the focus will be on the words, the
actions, the actors and the setting. Each site will inform how we do
what we do, with an emphasis on a fierce, fearless tackling of
Shakespeares world and words. Actual teenagers will play Romeo
and Juliet. With a mix of young talent and seasoned professionals,
this company will mix Shakespeares world with our own, explor-
ing how age, authority, religion and family continue to shape us
and what can happen when generations collide, or at least fail to
communicate. Romeo and Juliet has everything: Religion, Love and
Hate, Youth and Age, Freedom, Authority, Faith, Ancient Grudges
and New Mutinies, Peace at the Highest Price. There are two
performances planned at the Georgi on Monday, September 21 @
7PM, and Thursday, July 24 @ 7PM. These are outdoor perfor-
mances, so plan to bring a blanket or lawn chairs. These events
are FREE, family friendly and open to the public. The Georgi
Museum will be open at 6PM for self-guided tours prior to both
performances. For further information contact the Georgi Mu-
seum at (518) 854-3773 or contact Coordinator, Wendy Bordwell
at (518) 321-0479.

LAND DONATED TO SAVE ENDANGERED OWLS! Some very generous people have offered
to donate 14 acres of prime habitat in Fort Edward to Friends of the IBA, a local nonprofit working to
protect endangered Short-eared Owls and other at risk grassland birds and their habitat. The parcel
is located in the heart of the Washington County Grasslands Important Bird Area. Friends of the IBA
(FIBA) is asking for your help to raise $20,000 to cover costs of transferring the land and future
management costs. We need to raise one third of that amount by September 1st to be able to close
on the property, said FIBA President & Director Laurie LaFond. Every contribution helps. This is
an important first acquisition in our Land for Owls campaign. Friends of the IBA is a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit and the first official New York State DEC steward of the Washington County Grasslands
state areas. Friends of the IBA was awarded a $5,000 grant from the NYS Conservation Partnership
Program by DEC and Land Trust Alliance in May. LaFond said the grant, funded through the
Environmental Protection Fund (EPF), will help advance the groups mission to provide safe habitat
for these beautiful birds and educate the public about them. Mail checks to Friends of the IBA, P.O.
Box 82, Fort Edward, NY 12828, or call (518) 499-0012 and leave a message. Visit www.ibafriends.org
for more info! Note: The Washington County Grasslands is critical to the survival of Short-eared
Owls, as well as hundreds of other native birds and mammals.

improvements for 2014. Many fairgoers have visited Veterans Hall or have come to an Open House

family or a friend that served our country. Veterans Hall honors all veterans. In addition we are
compiling a list of veterans names from Rensselaer County. This will be an ongoing objective for
years to come. Getting your veterans name on the list is free, easy and a good way to ensure his/her
