Fashion Week Soundtracks
Autumn / Winter 2009 / 2010
+ Couture SS09
We started listing the music playlists used at fashion week in 2005. But this year we have signicantly expanded our coverage, and have listings for over 160 shows in London, Paris, Milan, and New York.
Since we started the lists in 2005, the music has evolved dramatically.
Increasing amounts of designers are using sound designers with the
ability to strategically support the collection and the brand.
We’re seeing a lot less DJ’ing and a lot more sound production. A lot less obvious tracks such as Madonna’sVogue, and a lot more diversity. Talking to some of the sound producers involved in the show it’s clear that they are being brought in at a much earlier stage of the planning process. And that designers are increasingly paying as much attention to the soundtrack as to the other details of the show production.
But mostly there was Grace Jones.e winner of the Most Played
Artist - 14 plays, and the Most Played Track (Pull Up Toe
Bumper) - played 5 times.
Notably creative high-concept soundtracks at the Henrik Vibskov
show with a score from Svend Jacob Pedersen that incorporated the
noise of a washing machine; and Rachel Comey who overlaid a
comedy track by Heather Lawless with musical instruments.
