There was a tie In our evening Creative Sewing Club meeting. Cookie De
Laurelle, South Bend, won with her Four Patch Stacked Posies quilt. Its a sim-
plified version of a Stack N Whack, but it sure looks impressive. And she quilted
it on her Handi Quilter, and did a great job with that, too. (If you live in our area,
we have a class for this type quilt this session.)The other winner was Marlene
Moore, Mishawaka, who made a beautiful appliqued witch wallhanging for her sis-
ter.
Our daytime meeting also had a tie! Ann Littleton, also of South Bend, made
this snowman quilt. She had embroidered centers, and the whole thing was put
together with decorative stitches on her Baby Lock with the Cotton Theory tech-
nique. Lots of stitching in this one!! Nancy Wenstrand from Sawyer, Michigan
used her Viking Diamond to make her lucky granddaughter this embroidered
purse with lots of accessories Lots of stitches in this little thing, too!

Jolene Swinehart from Goshen
made these adorable quilts for her
granddaughters and became our
evening Sew-er of the Month for
October. Runner-up was Karen
Lindley from South Bend, and you
can see her zippy Strippy on
Steroids (as named by her hus-
band) below in blue.

Judy Bodjack from St Joseph, Michigan, always makes quilts for her
family that depict their special interests. This one, which won top honor, is motor
cross. Runner-up was Marguerite Pluta (South Bend) with a black, white, and
lime green quilt. Shes made lots of black white and bright colored quilts.

In November we had to cancel our evening meeting because of that darned win-
ter weather that afflicts us here in Michiana! But things were stable by morning, and
we had our morning meeting. Judy Felty was Sew-er of the Month with a quilt for
her granddaughter. Sydney helped her pick out colors of fabric, most of which ended
up being pink!
Runner-up was Vicki Gibson from Goshen with her Hot Chocolate wallhang-
ing. Admittedly it was a UFO for a few years, but obviously worth finishing up! Vicki
also had a satin Christening dress that was a beautiful heirloom.

Arlene Lehman (Niles, MI) peeks out from
behind her Card Trick quilt made entirely in
the embroidery hoop. Gorgeous!
Two ladies in Mary's Ribbon Embroidery Class
brought along projects theyd done. Lauren
Strach from St Joe, MI, brought a number of
fiber art pieces shes done. She has entered
and won ribbons, and now added Ribbon
Embroidery to her many skills.
Betty Hamilton, South
Bend, shared her amaz-
ing bead quilt that meas-
ures about 5" x 7"! She
also showed us the paper
piecing she is working
on as rehab for a stroke she suffered only a
week before the class!
Connie Riddle from Granger, IN, took the
Tiny Town class to learn applique. She
also did a great job with her Handi Quilter
to enhance each block!
Cidney Walter from
Elkhart, IN made this
beautiful scarf for a
friend. Lucky friend!
She used Debbie
Bliss Angel yarn and
Eros II yarn knitted
together.
Donna Scaravelli (St Joseph, MI) won 1st
Place in the Sr Division a the Berrien County
Fair! Her Play Dress was done on her Viking
serger and is absolutely beautiful. It was the
first time she had ever entered the fair.
Congratulations Donna!
Karen Lindley from South Bend,
entered 2011s My Handi Quilter
Story contest and was one of the
lucky people to win several days at
the Handi-Quilter facility in Salt Lake
City. Shes one of our most produc-
tive HQ Club members, having retired
from many years of teaching math.
Karen designed her Tree of Lifequilt from a picture on a post
card. She made Lauras Quilt for her nieces college gradua-
tion.
Below left you see the back
of the Zippy Strippy on
Steroids quilt that you
can see in this issues
October Creative Sewing
Club Runners-Up photo.
(Ericas note: I am fre-
quently delighted to see
new photos in my email as
she continues to amaze me
with her progress! She just
started quilting a little over a year ago!)

Sandy Wagner from Dowagiac, MI, made her
Fanciful Flowers from Nancy Halvorsens
Forever Spring fabrics and used lots of decora-
tive stitches on her Babylock and Viking
machines. Love the back, too!
Janie Wagoner, from Las Cruces, NM, also had a
story honored by Handi Quilter. And we were hon-
ored that she visited our store!

Karen Stutzman from Mishawaka brought in the
ABC quilt she made for her grandsons.
Karen had an embroidery software program, but she
didn't like all the designs. She stretched herself to edit
the designs, replacing some with pictures more suit-
able for boys. She also changed the fonts and
designed some number and letter blocks to fill out her
rows. Karen created fringed tails, manes and a lion's
ruff for her critters.
Over the years weve teased Judy Sulok
(Mishawaka) that some of her co-workers
must have babies just to get the great gifts
that Judy makes for them. First child gets
a quilt, so this was a gift for a second or
third child.
Joyce Cardell from Peru, IN, brought in her
Radiant Star quilt (Quilt in a Day: Radiant Star
Quilts A12270). Our Nancy Fullen had helped her
pick out the fabrics and she couldnt be more
pleased. Great job, ladies!!!
Paula Fisette, from South Bend, made this Soul Mates
(36652) cross stitch for her husband Rick who likes wolves.
The cross stitch took Paula eight months to complete. The
detail, and the number of stitches in this piece make it an
amazing gift. She has started a new Tigers cross stitch.
Wed love to see that when she finishes it.

Sally Hanson from Niles, MI made this Triangle
Patchwork quilt for her daughter Beth and her hus-
band Gabe for Christmas!
Sandy Myers from Elkhart, IN, brought in two magnificent quilts. Her Wild ! Flowers
(19768) quilt is larger than the original embroidered quilt and simply stunning!
Blossom Time, a previous Block of the Month, is applique, so Sandy is good at both
types of quilt. Thanks so much for sharing!
Cheryl Barnes from Mishawaka, IN, is
excited....she FINISHED a quilt. Nothing like a
grandchild as a strong motivator! She made this
quilt for her grandson Cody's 7th Birthday. Im sure
he loved it!

Doreen Murphy from Cassopolis, MI, showed us her Journal Quilt.
She made a block a week for a year. Each block is a memory, and
there are so many techniques used that we could look at this all day
and still not be able to appreciate it all.
Teresa Simon from Mishawaka, IN, is another of my Handi Quilter
Club members who regularly shares finished projects. Weve
known Teresa for many years and have seen her master one thing
after another, from machine embroidery ro embroidery software, to
quilting and longarming and Pro-Stitcher software. Her pastel quilt
had each square stitched separately on her Fusion and Pro-
Stitcher! Her Mermaid quilt, below, is one of the few things shes
kept for herself. Its a combination free-motion and Pro-Stitcher quilt
for her bed. And her husband, Dana, is one of her biggest fans of
all her accomplishments. (Im another!)

13
Wanda Farr, from Buchanan, Mi, brought in two gorgeous quilts to share! She pieced
and quilted them herself. We loved the quilts, and also her jaunty hat!
Janet Alles from Portage, IN, made this quilt as a
Christmas present for her daughter, Janice. The pat-
tern is I Am Blue from the book French Braid Quilts,
#35937. Janet said that the instructions in the book
were so clear that making the quilt was "easy-peasy."
Janet started on a Friday and finished piecing on
Sunday! Hard to believe it was that easy, but its sure
beautiful. Lucky Janice!
Jane Marz brought in the cute Baby Bunnies quilt
she made for her new niece. Jane is from
Edwardsburg, MI. I wish shed peeked out from
behind the quilt!
Joy Evard had a great time knit-
ting these scarves for a local
bazaar. She used Tinseltown Yarn and she made one a day!

Lisa Youngquist from South
Bend made these baby booties
for baby Amanda, who was due
later in the month.
Janis Fleisher, Baroda,
MI, likes to combine
machine embroidery and
quilting. She even does
some of the quilting in the
embroidery hoop!
Joan Nowak from
Granger, made this
snowman rag quilt
from flannel. All that
cutting was worth it!
Jeanette

Zippy Strippy Everywhere!
15
Certainly our most popular quilt in 2011, we called our version the Zippy Strippy, though
its been known by many other names. Here are some people working on them in class,
with their finished tops, and many came in with the completed quilt. Hard to make just
one, weve done them in several sizes now. (You can get our instructions with the pur-
chase of any strip collection. Just ask one of the ladies at the counter, or note it in your-
internet order.)
More Zippy Strippy!
16
Carole Skibbe, Eau Claire, MI
Dee Schlipp, also from
Eau Claire
Sue Hirshler (South Bend)
added borders!
Martha Graham (Colon, MI)
added some fancy borders!
You can take Joans Zippy Strippy Class on March 3rd.

Kevina, just 7, Pink Quilt: Kevina (age
7, from Niles Mi) made the pink and
black Thimbleberries, embroidered the
towels, and knitted her sweater!
This is clearly a very talented family!
In our last issue we showed you projects from our
Sewing machine technician, Kimmy Clear, and her
brother, Kelsey, who have been winning ribbons at the
Berrien County Youth Fair for years. At that time we did-
nt have these photos of three more prize winning sisters!
Kelsey, age 17, made a machine quilted bird panel quilt,
knitted and hand quilted pillows, and the smocked dress
modeled by Kevina. Kristen, age 13, made and hand
quilted an elephant baby quilt that won Reserve
Champion.
Carolyn Mathies from Fredonia, WI emailed to tell us how
much she and two friends enjoyed making the mini whole-
cloth quilt squares. She said it was a learning experience
for all three and they liked how they turned out. So do we!
She recommends the mini-quilts as a great project for any-
one who wants to learn whole cloth quilting, but not do a
bed-size project. They used a layer of cotton batting and
a layer of high-loft batting. The blue lines dissolved
easily by
soaking the
finished
quilts in cool
water for
about 10 min-
utes. Thanks
for sharing,
Sue.
People and Projects from Farther Away
When I got this note from Betsy Pratt from
Canton, CT, I was immediately in love with
her characters! She wanted us to see
what she does with our wool felt. She
says it is excellent to work with and it
allows creativity to really take hold. It sure
does for her! Wow! Id love to see more,
Betsy!
Emily Land, Franklin, TN, sent us a photo of her
Crabapple Hills Over the River & Through the
Woods quilt. She did the handwork and gave her
sister the panels and the fabric for her to piece
as her Christmas present. What a great idea! I
love it in red, too.

We also love to hear from our internet customers! Many sent us photos. We especially
like the ones with people in them, but we love seeing them all.

Mary Easton from Wakarusa, IN, first sent
a photo of the quilt she made for her son,
Lee, serving in Afghanistan, and then we
were thrilled to get photos of him opening
his quilt! While looking at pictures from
"The Sandbox" Mary noticed how void of
color it is, so she decided to make him a
colorful quilt for his birthday. Her son-in-
law's mother, Judy Weldy, (also from
Wakarusa, and a Handi Quilter Club mem-
ber, did the machine quilting. Thank you
for sharing, and thank you, Lee, for your
service! We hope the quilt helped keep
you warm in the winter there. We know it
added color!

Patty Sahli bought one of our finished models
and sent the photo of it on her bed in the sewing
space she carved out in her tent in Africa! She
sent more photos of tops she has pieced there,
including the patriotic quilt shown by two friends.
She usually just pieced, planning to assemble
and quilt when she came home just before
Christmas The blue quilt she completely finished
in her tent. Where theres a will, theres a way!
She said she also taught two military wives to
quilt and sewed patches on sailors and airmens
uniforms. Her husband is in the army, stationed
in Germany.
Beautiful work, Patty. And thanks again to all
who serve our country. We appreciate so much
what youre doing.
Our Staff is Productive, Too.
Diane James, from our
Sewing Deoartment, quilt-
ed the beautiful quilt that
Kim Wilson (Front
Counterperson) pieced for
her daughter, Alex.
The pieced back is fun,
too!
Kim also made a Lighthouse Quilt in to
share. The lighthouses are machine
embroidered using the Dakota Lighthouse
Collection 970133.
Linda Ullery,
Front Counter
Staff, has been
with us over 20
years! And I
remember hav-
ing her in a
variety of my classes
before that. Linda
made this quilt for her
daughter, Jackie. Jackie
picked out the pattern and
all the fabrics before she
got married. Unfortunately,
her husband isnt as excit-
ed about pink and brown...

Beethoven, 20 1/2, was a constant,
loving companion...
If you have photos of your Crafter Kitty that youd
like to share,
please email them to me.
erica@ericas.com
Sadly, we lost three beloved
feline companions in the last
quarter of 2011, bringing to an
end, the original family we had
built over twenty plus years.
We have the wonderful memo-
ries of all of them, and have
begun filling the holes left in
our hearts with our new boys,
Bernstein and Puccini.
This is Bernie, and hes going
to be the quilting assistant.
From the beginning, he was on every piece of fabric he saw. Here he was
helping me put the accent fabric on the Giant Panda wallhanging I was work-
ing on. (you can read more about the pattern in an upcoming blog post and in
this newsletter, in the New and Noteworthy Books and Patterns section.
Tchaikovsky, 17 1/2, was always
Mommas baby...
Kassia, 8 1/2, lost tragically from a blood clot, a few
days before Christmas, came to our home because
she looked like Beethoven, the only two smoke colored
kitties wed ever seen. Early on, we had to see their
eyes to be sure which one we were looking at.
We loved them all so much and their memories are
blessings to us. See more Crafter's Kitties here.

Animals rule in the Meadors home in
Bridgeman, Michigan. Cheryl sent me so
many great photos, I had trouble narrowing
them down, but sure enjoyed them.
You can see theyre all quilt lovers, and it
doesnt even matter to Oreo if the quilt is in
a hoop with Cheryls daughter Lilee trying to
quilt, or on Cheryls Fusion frame! You sure have
to love these guys to put up with so much help!
(As all of us animal lovers do, of course.)
Although these gals started
out in South Bend, after
they were rescued and
found Lori Thompson,
she took them back home
to Kirkland, IN. She tells
us, Lucy likes to sleep
on the projects in the
works, but Emmie is an
active participant in the quilting
process. So much so that I have to
keep moving her off of the quilts while
Im working on them because they are
hard to push around with her little
princess self on them :)
They obviously know theyve got it
good!

As soon as Arlene Forst unloaded her

Er i c a s Ad d i t i o n s :
Ive always enjoyed Amy Bradley patterns
that incorporate her sense of humor. We
have three new ones. With Ms. Pinny
Cush, you could make this pincushion for
all your sewing friends! Its fusible
applique 5 1/2" tall and there are two ver-
sions included for hair
or a hat. The letters are
included for the side-
band which reads
"ouch!" and "darn!".
Of course you could
choose whatever word
you want! A15171

1 Little, 2 Little, 3
Little Quilters is a
24 1/2" wallhanging
that can grace your
sewing studio or be a
gift for a sewing sis-
ter. A15170 (15.00)
Then
theres Ms. Moody 2 Shoes.
This is a mood quilt, to let
everyone know your mood.
The instructions let you
make a two-sided pillow,
two separate wallhangings,
or an apron, with this quilt

on your sewing room
door. You can use either
fusible design to let peo-
ple know how your day is
going. A15169 (15.00)
Of course one of my all
time favorites is the
Quilter's Yearbook.
There are mix and match
hairstyles, glasses, fea-
tures, and shirts. Make
your own crazy quilters! What a fun quilt
to make with quilting friends. Each one
could make portraits of herself and the
others and have really customized quilts!
I did one of myself as soon as it came in.

I made Sue Pellands
Christmas Ribbons
(A11221), using her
Grande Leaves Galore
Templates (59786).
Theres another beautiful
pattern that uses two of
the templates. The
Promise Ring was inspired by the tradi-
tional wedding ring
quilt. Its perfect for
couples who have
promised their love
to one another, but
also just beautiful on
its own. A13751
(9.95) It uses the
Grande and Petite
templates.
Beth Ferriers More! Hand Applique by
Machine is her second using her clever
applique method to make machine
applique more like needle turn applique.
She writes with humor, which always
makes learn faster and
easier. And its better yet,
if you use the Wash-Away
Applique Sheets I mention
in the New and
Noteworthy Cool Tools
and Nifty Notions column.

A13718 (18.00) These
are really much easier and quicker than
you would think. You can see Rob talk
about making them on YouTube. Rob
uses Michael Millers Fairy Frost fabric,
and Rob and Michael Miller donate $3
from each pattern to
help support the
endangered animals
and those who take
care of them, so you
can have fun, have a
fabulous wallhanging,
and help the animals
all at the same time.

Ne w & No t e wo r t h y
Ma c h i n e E mb r o i d e r y , e t c .
When Jenny sent me
the photo of A Place
in the Sun, I loved it
immediately! I can
see it in purple and
yellow, but I know
blue and yellow are a really popular combi-
nation. It isnt due in the states until next
month, but were taking pre-orders. This
latest book by Jenny Haskins features the
quilt, step-by-step directions and photos
along with all the embroidery and quilting
designs to make it. All the embroidery and
quilting are done in a 200mm x 200mm
hoop including: blocks, sashing, scalloped
borders and cornerstones, all of which
incorporate built-in stitch cutting lines,
pieced with the Jenny Join for perfectly flat
seams. A14864 (59.99)
In the meantime, Jenny and Simon have
been busy compiling special editions.
These are wonderful collections with the
designs and instructions for the project
shown on the cover, and sometimes some
bonus ideas as well.
Fiesta is a quilt made and
designed by Simon. It
reflects Simon's love of
vibrant colors and exquisite
fabrics inspired by his many
trips to Mexico. This festive
quilt is made of luscious silk
in keeping with Simon's love of working
with this luxurious fabric but can be just as
beautiful in cottons. 50560 (49.99)
I Need a Little Christmas
is a romantic Advent
Calendar (for next year!)
that incorporates Jenny's
Magic Quilting in the hoop
(with cutting lines so no
measuring is required),
Jenny Join (for perfectly flat
seams) and Jenny's Embroidered
Decoupage technique! You cannot get
much easier than this. 50561 (49.99)
Simon designed the Quilt-
a-Matic Special Edition.
Hes known for his love of
vibrant colors and progres-
sive quilting techniques
which are gloriously shown
in this latest quilt aptly
named Quilt-a-matic. There
are just four steps: Hoop and stitch all
three layers, cut on the built-in stitch cut-
ting line: piece with the easy Jenny Join,
and bind your finished quilt. Almost auto-
matic! 50575 (49.99)
Simon designed and
pieced the striped blocks
for this quilt with another
collection in mind and
Jenny and Robbie added
these beautiful red floral
designs and put them on
Simon's pieced fabric.
What a beautiful outcome! (However,
there was quite a discussion before it was
finished - thus the name War Of The
Roses). A15427 (49.99)
Cottage Rose, a unique
double-sided quilt, not only
looks amazing, it also
teaches so many new & dif-
ferent techniques. It fea-
tures 6mm twin needle quilt-
ing, stipple quilting as well
as template placement for embroidery,
applique and a scalloped edge binding
which completes it beautifully. This quilt is
quick and easy. A15428
(29.99)
Roses For Mary is dedi-
cated to, and in memory of,
Jenny's mother. It was a
very popular collection pre-
viously, with the instruc-
35
tions in now unavailable Creative
Expressions magazines. The Roses For
Mary quilt designs and combinations are
not confined to a quilt but can be used in
many other applications such as pillows,
wall hangings, table quilts and clothing.
A15433 (39.99)
Renaissance is a very
easy quilt to make with the
blocks being straight for-
ward to embroider and the
piecing simple. This quilt is
dedicated to Robyn Wilson,
long-time friend, colleague
and co-worker of Jenny and Simon in the
studio. A15432 (39.99)
Peaches & Green is not
only a beautiful quilt but
also a teaching quilt with
Jenny sharing some of her
techniques. This quilt was
one of the inspirations for
her Heritage quilt and
book. You will learn her
Embroidered Decoupage technique to cre-
ate free standing embroideries and The
Jenny Join quilt-as-you-go with decorative
satin stitches to piece the quilt sections
together. A great quilt for the beginner
through advanced. A15431 (39.99)
Jenny got inspiration from a
number of sources for the
Creative Fantasy CD. Its
a summer quilt, evoking the
lovely scent of lavender
perfume, gentle breezes
and hazy days of calm and
tranquility.
A15429 (39.99)
The Splendor Special
bedspread combines net,
linen and lace, and features
one of Jenny's signature

embroidered lace. This is a creation by
Jenny's good friend, Lucie, and it speaks
for itself - simply stunning! A15430 (49.99)
A Little French Chic is a
stylish table runner by
Jenny and her fellow artist,
Robbie, and it reflects their
love of working with silk
fabric along with the color
pink and all things romanti-
cally chic. These designs
used on the table runner pictured are glori-
ously large applique designs made up of
two interlocking designs. 50668 (49.99)
The I Feel Pretty table or
wall quilt is the perfect proj-
ect for the time when you
want to learn new tech-
niques, play with tactile
products and create an eye
catching quilt to hang in
your sewing studio to
remind yourself of how pretty you really
are, inside and out! 50648 (49.99)
At the Fall Quilt Market, I found a new
company with really unique designs! These
designs are digitized for use with Mylar. A
color change chart is included with each
collection with instructions about when to
place the Mylar on the design and when to
remove the excess. (This special fill is not
recommended to be resized.) Here are a
few of the ones we picked up, and we will
add more if you like them as much as we
do:
There are 16 Mylar
Snowflakes, 15 for the
4 x 4 hoop and , 1 for
the 5x7 hoop. Until you
see one sewn out, you
cant imagine how
beautiful it is. Id gladly
trade the real thing for these
lovelies! A14996 (49.99)

One of our favorite gal-
pals, Angie from Lunch
Box Quilts, looks for-
ward to summer with
Picnic Time. Applique
designs are included to
make a 24" x 48" table
runner or a 60" x 60"
quilt. They look deli-
cious! (And she tells me shes hard at
work on more collections for Spring!)
A15131 (50.00)
Another new company
from Quilt Market is also
thinking warm! The
Summer's Dance quilt is
58" x 75". Have fun
stitching these lovely
dragonflies and swirl bor-
der blocks. You can use
these blocks to piece this colorful quilt and
enjoy the summers dance. A15058
(35.00)
And still thinking warm, is
Wildflowers Gone Wild,
a 50" x 63" lap quilt or
wallhanging. Spring into
this colorful garden quilt
with bright fabrics or
sweet pastels to add a
touch of spring to any space. A15057
(50.00)
Color Garden also con-
tinues with the warm
feeling. You can stitch
the colorful spring
flower blocks and piece
this 52 1/2" x 62" beau-
ty in no time! There is a
simple embroidery
flower and an applique' flower included so
you can change the look. An outline flower
and an applique flower are included meas-
uring 4" x 5". A15062 (20.00)

Knitters Notes ~ My Turn!
by Cathy Mark
A new year, a new project for you!
Since the holidays are past, I'm planning on knitting something for myself (the
last few months have been devoted to gifts). While I enjoy being able to give hand-
made gifts, I often neglect making anything for myself. I've decided that needs to
change.
I have a preference for small projects the odds of getting them finished is so
much better than trying to complete a large project. Having said that though, I
would like to do an afghan and a long vest (we'll see how that goes). At the
moment, hat and gloves or mittens to go with a new coat will be first on the list. We
have a great new book for hats! Weekend Hats (A15053) has a wonderful selection
of hats in a variety of styles, skill levels and yarns, so there's many to try. I like hats
especially because they are small, portable, and are great places to try new things.
You can play with different yarns, interesting stitches, or new techniques without
being tied to a major undertaking. Sometimes that play can lead to good ideas for a
future project.
60 Quick Knits (59151) is another book filled with small projects such as
scarves, hats, gloves and mittens. Worsted weight yarn is used for most projects, so
the knitting goes relatively quickly. The sequel, 60 More Quick Knits (coming soon)
is just as useful, with 60 more small projects perfect for yourself (or gifts yes,
we'll all continue to give).
The latest special issue from Interweave Knits Magazine follows the trend for
small projects. As soon as I saw Knits Accessories (A15175) I knew I had to buy it!
It offers 42 little projects including hats (I can't help myself), gloves, fingerless mitts
and cowls (must make one). There are also sock patterns too, which I want to try
again I have one pair of knitted socks at home, but I need to try this again, I hear
it can be very addicting. Of course, for some of us, yarn and knitting is ALL addicting
(we could consider ourselves collectors, that sounds better than addicted).
I found a pattern for a simple long vest in an older book. I want to try a big-
ger project, hoping I can get myself to stick with it. I like the look of longer lines,
and a vest seems like a good way to add something to my wardrobe without over-
heating myself. I'm still trying to decide on color, but I'm sure I'll find something I
love here at the store. Our selection has grown over the years, offering a variety of
yarns in a range of prices, there's something for everyone!
A cozy afghan always sounds wonderful for our Northern Indiana winters, but
some pillows for the sofa sounds good too. Smaller projects seem to better for me
(have I mentioned that already?) I like the idea of playing with stitches and color
and that gratification as I bind off and have a useable item is a wonderful feeling.
Now I'm ready to go home & knit!
Remember to be good to yourself. If you're feeling good, you'll
pass that feeling along. Take care of others, but remember to take
care of yourself too.
Happy Knitting!

use your
Handi Quilter!
It was a double pleasure for me to teach Cheryl Meadors how to use her Handi
Quilter Fusion, since she taught me all about the Viking Sewing Machine line
about 27 yeas ago. At that time she was the Viking representative who granted
us our dealership. Though she has a different job now, shes still
enjoying sewing, and now quilting! What a beautiful setting she
has in Bridgman for her Fusion! Shes already finished several
large projects and is looking forward to Handi Quilter Club.

Kimmy says, I've been longarming since 1998, have owned two 26
inch machines, have quilted over 3000 quilts for customers, have taught
on pretty much every machine out there and I can honestly say that my
Avante is the best machine I've ever laid hands on...

Are you a Sewing Club Member?
If one of your gifts in December was a sewing machine or
serger, you probably are a Sewing Club Member. Most new
sewing machines and serger purchases at Ericas give you a
years free membership in Ericas Creative Sewing Club. (Some
beginning-of-the-line models have the option to join, but not the
free year.)
If you got your machine over a year ago and let your membership expire, wed
love to have you back. Renewal for a year is $25, and you get several written instruc-
tion sheets, door prizes, and special discounts at each meeting, so you get your invest-
ment back quickly by coming to the meetings. You also receive tips, hints, updated
information on sewing techniques and aids, and have a fun time with a great group of
people. The Bring and Brag session is always inspirational! (See our Sew-ers of the
Month!)
Those who bought their machines through June 89 are our Charter Members,
with membership for as long as they own their machine. If it hadnt been for their sup-
port and encouragement in the beginning years, Ericas Creative Sewing Club might not
have been what it is today!
There is no annual fee.
You dont tie up other credit cards.
Option of 6 months no interest with monthly payments on purchases over
$100!
If you apply by January 31st and are approved, well give you 20%
off a purchase that day, of regularly priced merchandise, using your
new Ericas Credit Card. Easy application, quick decision, any sales
person can help you. (New applications only.)

OWNERS CLASSES AND
ACTIVITIES
These classes are
especially for people who
have bought their sewing
and embroidery machines
at Ericas, as a thank
you for supporting us.
If youve recently moved
into our area and have a Viking or Baby
Lock, please contact us about
participating with us. Note-all other
classes shown in other categories are
open to everyone.
Ericas Creative Sewing ClubIf
you bought your serger or sewing machine
from Ericas, a years membership is
automatic for most models, and youll get
special discounts at the meetings. Mary
Ann Lienhart-Cross, the Sewing
57
Deoartment ladies, and I share our
excitement and enthusiasm for
quilting, sewing, and fabric crafting,
giving you hints, patterns, and sewing and
serging updates. The same presentation is
given in the evening and the next morning.
We have a wonderful group of people who
share this common interest of sewing, and
you can make new friends while you get
new ideas. This is an opportunity
specifically for our sewing machine and
serger customers, but if you have a Viking
or Baby Lock and just moved to our area,
or didnt know about us, please check with
us if youre interested. See page 52 for
Club dates.
Handi Quilter
ClubThis is an
opportunity for Erica
to share techniques
and ideas with our
Handi Quilter Frame System owners.
Each meeting will include hints and tips, a
technique or two, and a project to work on
at home. Everyone is encouraged to bring
along quilts theyve done, or want help
with. Club fee is $30 for 6 meetings, and
there will be a small charge for handouts
at the meeting. If there is space, we will
add people who were not able to purchase
their frame systems from us. Please sign
up on the waiting list if youre interested.
The fee will be $50 if not purchased at
Ericas. Club dates are on page 52.
Embroidery Clubs
These are groups where
you explore more
alternatives for the
embroidery aspect of
your Viking or Baby
Lock and try all kinds of things
you might not have tried on your own. We
have several groups going now. Members
will tell you how much fun theyre having
and how much theyre learning!
Membership is $30 for the six-month
session and club packs average around
$15, always including a few or several
embroidery designs for your collection.
Projects feature Judy Nowickis
embroidery designs especially for our
Embroidery Club members! You get
information on project costs and a list of
what to bring before each meeting. There
are openings in some of the groups, so let
us know right away if youre interested!
(For our owners) See page 52 for Club
Dates.
Viking Digitizing ClubThis club
meets the third Saturday of the month.
Linda uses prepared projects and step-by-
step instructions. We include Viking 3D,
4D and 5D formats. It is not necessary to
have a laptop to join us, but it would be
helpful. If members have taken the
Digitizing Introduction class or have tried
digitizing on their own with some success
this will be helpful but not absolutely
necessary. You will be doing mostly
manual digitizing over Lindas drawings.
You will receive a paper handout as well
as a CD with drawings and a video of the
class as your class pack. Come join the
fun! See page 52 for club dates.
If youre one of our new owners and
havent had a chance to take a basic class
yet, please talk to someone in our sewing
department.
