    She gave me a hug and I smiled. I took those words into my heart, and I
    wasnt afraid anymore. I stopped trying to make myself smaller when I walked
    onto the bus; I stood tall (as tall as I could stand). Instead of looking at the oor
    as I hurried to my seat, I looked those kids right in the eye. Because I stopped
    acting like a victim, they stopped treating me like one, and after that the bullying
    stopped. I had earned their respect.
    My mothers incredible words have become a mantra in my life, and I want
    you to know this too:
    What makes you different makes you beautiful. Embrace who you are, what
    you are, the gifts that God gave you. Those things about yourself that you dont
    love you know, your freckles, your laugh lines, your nose those are the deli-
    cious, unique characteristics that make you YOU. And you, my love, are beauti-
    ful.
