Denver Union Station Redevelopment Celebrates Bus

Concourse Opening

On May 9, Denvers Union Station Bus Concourse celebrated its grand
opening, to the delight of the Downtown Denver Partnership, the Regional
Transportation District, and the numerous partners of the Denver Union
Station redevelopment project. The concourse represents the first
completed step in the overall redevelopment of Denver Union Station,
which will also feature new light rail, commuter rail, and Amtrak lines to be
opened by 2016.

The old Denver Union Station stood as an icon of transportation for over a
century, and its redevelopment has been described as one of the worlds
most ambitious transit projects. The redevelopment has already proven a
key economic driver and job creator for the Denver area, and when the
station is fully completed, it is expected to have a huge impact on the
downtown, the region, and the state, further contributing to Denvers status
as a healthy, livable, connected city.

The newly opened underground bus concourse is 1,000 feet long, features
22 gates, and has a bus departing every 48 seconds during rush hour. The
opening ceremony involved guided tours of the bus concourse and a
neighborhood street fair with food, games, and live entertainment. Prior to
the ceremony, close to 500 people attended a panel discussion on public-
private transit partnerships.
