Three Methods: Safe Ways to Induce a Fever at Home- Foods that Increase Body Temperature - Medical Procedures to Induce Fever
Fevers are part of the human body's natural defenses. An increased body temperature can help destroy invading viruses and bacteria, and it may even help regulate the body's metabolism and hormones. Inducing a fever at home can be risky, though, so you should exercise great caution as you do so. You may also want to consider increasing your body's standard body temperature without causing an actual fever, since doing so offers many of the same health benefits without the risk.
Part 1 of 3: Safe Ways to Induce a Fever at Home
1 Prepare a Schlenz bath at home.
[1] Also known as an "overheating bath," this centuries-old technique works by stimulating the body's natural immunological response. You can take a bath at a professional Schlenz center, but the process is simple enough to do at home.
!

Before the bath, drink one or two cups of hot herbal tea, including ginger, lemon balm, peppermint, elder, or goldenrod tea. If you have a weak heart, add several drops of crataegisan to the tea to reduce the potential risk brought about by the hot bath.
!

Fill the bathtub with hot water. Keep the temperature between 97 and 98 degrees Fahrenheit (36 and 37 degrees Celsius).
!

Submerge your entire body underwater. If you cannot fit your entire body into the tub, bend you knees so that you head is submerged. Make sure that your nose and mouth remain out of the water so that you can breathe without problem.
!

You should not allow the water temperature to drop during the process. Add more hot water, as needed, to maintain the heat. Allow the water to reach a temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) with each addition.
!

Remain in the bath for 20 to 25 minutes. Have another person help you out of the water if you feel faint or dizzy getting out.
2

Try an alternate form of bath therapy.
[2] Aside from the traditional Schlenz bath, there are other hot bath therapies you can use to induce a fever.
!

Draw a hot bath, making the water as hot as you can stand without scorching yourself. Mix in 2-1/4 lbs (1000 g) Epsom salts.
!

Soak as much of your body as possible in the bath. Stay in there for a full 20 to 25 minutes, adding more hot water as needed to maintain a constant source of heat.
!

Sip on ginger root tea during the bath to heat the body from the inside as you heat your body from the outside using the bath water.
!

Be careful when getting out of the bath. If you feel faint or dizzy, ask for someone else's assistance.
!

Dry off naturally instead of drying yourself with a towel.
!

Spread a sheet of plastic over your bed and lie down, covering yourself with as many blankets as possible. Stay there for three to eight hours. You will sweat a lot and should stay in bed until the fever breaks.
!

Usually, the fever will go away after six to eight hours.
!

You can repeat this once a week for as many as six to eight weeks.
!

3 Learn g-tummo meditation.
[3] Tummo meditation is a highly spiritual and specialized form of meditation, so you may not be able to pick it up casually. Find an expert instructor and ask him or her to guide you through the practice.
!

This form of meditation is used by Tibetan nuns and

monks. It has been scientifically proven to increase core body temperature.
!

The first aspect of tummo meditation responsible for this change is a technique called "vase breath." When using vase breath, you harness breathing patterns that still the body and redistribute energy.
!

The second aspect responsible for the change is visualization. For instance, one common visualization used in g-tummo is the image of flames near the spine.
4

Practice a special breathing technique.
[4]
By inhaling and exhaling in a series of half-breaths, you can see a rise in your core temperature. Alone, this technique may not induce a full fever. When used in conjunction with other measures, however, it can be of great assistance.
!

Inhale through your nose, only taking half a breath. Hold this half-breath for three to five seconds, then inhale through your nose again until you complete a full breath. Hold this breath for three to five seconds, as well.
!

Exhale through your mouth, only releasing half a breath. Hold your remaining half-breath for three to five seconds, then release the rest through your mouth. Hold this state for an additional three to five seconds.
!

Repeat this procedure for at least five minutes to see an increase in your body temperature.
Part 2 of 3: Foods that Increase Body Temperature
1Consume more coconut oil.
Over the course of three to five days, gradually work a full 1 Tbsp (15 ml) of coconut oil into your daily diet. You can eat it straight from the spoon, but if the taste is unappealing, try mixing it with butter an spreading it over a piece of toast.[5]
!

Add coconut oil to your diet gradually instead of consuming the full 1 Tbsp (15 ml) on your first day. Gradually working the oil into your diet can reduce the risk of digestive upset.
!

Within a week, this amount of coconut oil can raise your body temperature by a full degree. Using more coconut oil can make an even bigger difference, but you should first wait to see how your body reacts to this amount before increasing it any further.
!

Coconut oil contains beneficial saturated fats that break down inside the body and turn into energy instead of being stored as fat. The action stimulates the body and increases core temperature.
!

2 Use cayenne pepper.
[6] Add as little as 1/4 tsp (1.25 ml) of cayenne pepper to your food each day. If the heat is too much to handle in one sitting, spread it out by only adding a dash of cayenne pepper to your food at each meal.
!

Cayenne pepper contains an especially hot compound known as capsaicin. This compound is responsible for the initial burst of heat you experience when eating cayenne pepper, but this burst of heat is not responsible for the change in body temperature. Instead, the digestive process your body undergoes when processing capsaicin are what causes the spike in your temperature.
!

While it is not certain, jalapeno and habanero peppers may have a similar effect.
3 Drink ice cold water.
Drink a few glasses of ice cold water in a row for a quick spike in body temperature. Make the water as cold as possible before guzzling it for the strongest impact.
!

While you may feel colder initially, the sudden flood of cold liquid will force your body to warm up rapidly in an attempt to maintain a healthy temperature.

4 Eat ice cream.
Eating one serving of ice cream each day can gradually cause your core temperature to increase over a span of several weeks.
!

Part of the effect is similar to that caused by drinking ice cold water. The shock of cold your system receives forces it to heat up to prevent your temperature from dropping.
!

Additionally, foods that contain fat, protein, and carbohydrates heat up the body more as your digestive system processes them. Fat moves especially slow through your digestive system, forcing your body to warm up as it works more.[7]
5

Have a beer.
Beer and alcohol in general increase your body's core temperature quickly. The more you drink, the more your temperature will rise. Since alcohol dehydrates you and has other potentially harmful side effects, though, it is best to limit yourself to one beer or one glass of wine each day.
!

A process known as vasodilatation occurs when you drink alcohol, causing your body to dehydrate and become flush. As your blood vessels widen during this process, your skin heats up. 2.

6

Snack on some peanuts.
Introduce a handful of peanuts into your diet each day. Within a week or two, you should notice an overall increase in core temperature.
!

Peanuts contain healthy fats and plant-based proteins, both of which increase circulation and speed up the metabolism.
7 Serve yourself some brown rice.
A side of brown rice with every meal, or at least with every dinner, can cause your bod temperature to rise within a matter of days.
!

As a complex carbohydrate, brown rice gives your digestive system a challenge. The extra work your system uses in the digestive process heats you up inside.
!

Note that other whole grains, like quinoa and buckwheat, can also have a similar effect.
8

Get more ginger into your diet.
Eating a thumb-sized piece of raw ginger can give your body temperature a quick spike. If eating it does not appeal to you, though, you could also make a tea by boiling the same sized piece in water for 5 to 10 minutes.
!

Ginger increases digestive activity, thereby increasing body temperature. The spiciness of ginger is also a contributing factor.
!

Other root vegetables may help somewhat, as well. If ginger does not appeal to you, try carrots, beets, or sweet potatoes.
