Thesis: 1. As a result of Arthur Henry Hallums death, Alfred, Lord Tennyson wrote poetry
about the way of life, as seen in the structure and message of Ulysses and In Memoriam A.H.H.

Thesis: 2. Throughout a myriad of his poems, Alfred, Lord Tennyson explores the theme of
Death, noting its various aspects and natures as an inevitability that every man must face, a great
equalizer in life, and a force subject to Love through imagery, personification, diction, and
rhythm.

Point 1: Inevitability
Poems: The Charge of the Light Brigade and A Farewell
Idea: Charge of the Light Brigade soldiers trudging onward
A Farewell knowledge that one does not live forever and forever

Point 2: Equalizer in life
Poem: All Things Will Die and Ulysses
Ideas: all subject to death as seen in All Things Will Die
All people, even great heroes, feel death

Point 3: force subject to Love
Poems: Love and Death In Memoriam A.H.H. Sextion XXVII
Ideas: Love weaker than Death, but triumphant in the end
tis better to have loved and lost
