New York Archives Week is an annual celebration aimed at informing the general public of the diverse array of archival materials available in the metropolitan New York City region. Among the many activities free and open to the public will be open houses, lectures, workshops and behind-the-scenes tours of archives throughout the city. These special events are designed to celebrate the importance of historical records and to familiarize interested organizations and the public with a wealth of fascinating archival materials illuminating centuries of New York City history and culture. One of the premier events of New York Archives Week is the annual symposium, which will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2014. This year’s topic is financial institutions and archives. This encompasses not just financial institutions such as banks, but also organizations that maintain or have inherited financial records. Submissions are being accepted to present at the symposium with a deadline of September 7, 2014. More information can be found on the A.R.T. website. A.R.T. encourages its member institutions, along with any organizations that have archival records, to consider hosting an event or program for New York Archives Week.
