Teledyne Controls' Aircraft Wireless LAN Unit system is a compact,

lightweight and cost-effective networking solution that provides high performance off-board wireless
connectivity for Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) solutions, whether standalone, or integrated with the Onboard
Network System (ONS). The Aircraft Wireless LAN Unit system provides 3G/4G cellular connectivity as well
as a WiFi option.
Standard Cellular Connectivity
The Aircraft Wireless LAN Unit solution includes two HSPA+ modules with downlink speeds (toward the
aircraft) up to 5.76 Mbps, and uplink speeds (away from the aircraft) up to 21 Mbps. It also provides
fallback capability to HSPA, EDGE and GPRS. The Aircraft Wireless LAN Unit solution offers truly global
connectivity, operating both in the 3G and GPRS/EDGE frequency bands. Additionally, radio module
upgrades to 4G technologies, such as LTE Advanced and Mobile WiMAX, can be enabled. The cellular
antenna(s) are attached to the unit, which eliminates the need for fuselage mounted antennas. The
inclusion of two radios and SIMs improves availability through redundancy, and enables roaming charges
to be minimized, or even eliminated. The Aircraft Wireless LAN Unit system leverages Teledynes decade of
experience with cellular connectivity, sharing the same technology as the Wireless GroundLink

system, a
proven solution in commercial service at many airlines worldwide and certified on all major aircraft types.
Optional WiFi Connectivity
Also available with a WiFi option, the Aircraft Wireless LAN Unit system provides an ARINC 822 compliant
IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n radio capable of operating in both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands. This WiFi
option is compliant with all the latest relevant IEEE and ARINC standards. For WiFi connectivity, a fuselage
mounted antenna is highly recommended.
System Integrity and Reliability
The Aircraft Wireless LAN Unit device is not repackaged COTS equipment, but purpose built for avionics
use. It features the same hardware platform as the one used in Teledynes Network Extension Device (NED)
and Network File Server (NFS), thus sharing the same environmental characteristics and obsolescence
management required for the components of the ONS. This makes it a logical choice when it comes to
extending the ONS onboard network to off-board wireless LANs and WANs.
System Integration and Management
The Aircraft Wireless LAN Unit solution is a versatile system that can be connected either directly to the
EFBs via SNMP or to the ONS via SOAP. It is also data loadable over Ethernet via ARINC 615A.

SOLUTIONS FOR A CONNECTED AIRCRAFT
The Aircraft Wireless LAN Unit system is a key element in Teledyne Controls complete Connected Aircraft solution, which
consists of bridging traditional avionics equipment with new Ethernet-based systems. By integrating a wide range of products
that support both traditional ARINC 429 and TCP/IP interfaces, Teledynes Connected Aircraft facilitates connectivity both
onboard the aircraft, and between the aircraft and the airlines corporate network.
