Instructional Objectives
On completion the student will be able to
\u2022Draw the voltage and current waveforms associated with a converter taking into account
the effect of source inductance.
\u2022Find the average output voltage of the converter as a function of the firing angle and
overlap angle.
\u2022Estimate overlap angles under a given operating condition and hence determine the turn
off time available for the thyristors.
\u2022Draw the dc equivalent circuit of a converter and parameterize it.
\u2022Find out the voltage stress on the thyristors due to commutation overlap.
