Summer Hope
Beneft
This year, The Summer Hope Foundation is delighted to
have as its 2014 honoree, Ms. Jill Cook. Jill is a found-
ing board member, leading contributor and driving force
behind The Summer Hope Foundation.
Jill has been a part of The Summer Hope Foundation since
the very beginning, dating back to when she and founder,
Eddie Mouradian, worked together nearly ffteen years ago
at On The Border Mexican Cantina. When the idea for the
frst Summer Hope Beneft came to fruition, Jill wasted no time
drumming up attendance and cultivating long-term affnity
among her own circle of friends and family for The Summer Hope Foundations
mission to support the fght against cancer. Among those Jill engaged in that frst
event were future board members, her sisters, Tara Herr and Kerry Cook, as well as
board member and 2010 honoree, Sue Warde.
Jills support of The Summer Hope Foundation was born from a philanthro-
py and generosity that was instilled in her by parents, Eileen and Edward Cook.
Sadly, her support of The Summer Hope Foundation became much more
personal when her father was diagnosed with Head and Neck cancer and passed
away in 2005. Jills strength of character led her to channel that loss into even more
support for The Summer Hope Foundation, recruiting more and more supporters to
The Summer Hope Foundation and continuing to spread our message of providing
hope in the fght against cancer. In 2010, with the support of The Summer Hope
Foundation and her own extended network of loved ones, Jill ran the New York City
Marathon in memory of her father, raising $6,500 for cancer research at Memorial
Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Jills philanthropy extends far beyond The Summer Hope Foundation. She has
been a site captain for New York Cares Day and supports that organizations Winter
Wishes program by sending holiday gifts to underprivileged children. Additionally,
Jill volunteered in both Breezy Point and the Rockaways after the devastation of
Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
In her professional life, Jill has been a valued member of the Discovery Communi-
cations team for eight years, where she currently works as the Director of Research
for OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network). Earlier this year, Jill was the frst ever recipient of
the Discovery North Star Award. She was honored for her leadership and forward
thinking within the research department. True to form, Jill is also the project leader
for Discoverys International Volunteer Day.
Please join us in celebrating Jill Cooks accomplishments and support of The
Summer Hope Foundation on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the 12th Annual
Summer Hope Beneft. It is because of volunteers like her that The Summer Hope
Foundation is able to support the fght against cancer!
OUR MISSION
The Summer Hope Foundation is an award-winning, federally
recognized, non-proft organization, dedicated to supporting
the fght against cancer. We are 100% volunteer-operated by an
extended network of friends and family who have been touched
by cancer. Your donations help The Summer Hope Foundation to
continue supporting cancer research facilities, like the American
Cancer Society, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, that are working hard to beat
cancer. The Summer Hope Foundation is also able to help those
directly affected by cancer and their loved ones with programs
such as the Hope Package, a care package that is sent to cancer
patients across the country, as well as the Annie Alahverdian Fund
for Mothers with Cancer and the Steven Alvarez Fund for Children
with Cancer.
