Losing weight can be one of the most frustrating things to do. There is so much information and misinformation out there that's it hard to know who to listen to. My philosophy is the simpler the better. If it's simple it usually has more chance of success, and that's what fasting is...simple. No expense, no hype, no special foods.

So just what is intermittent fasting and why should you care? Intermittent fasting is simply the practice of short-term fasts, 24 hours in length, once or twice per week. This is done not so much to "cleanse the system" as many would have you believe, though it will to a degree. It's merely a simple and fast way of decreasing caloric intake so you can achieve your weight loss goals without starvation plans or other fad diets. Common sense must be used to a certain degree though. You cannot fast one day a week and binge on junk food the other 6. Fasting coupled with healthy eating habits the rest of the week will help you lose weight fast and feel great.

Weight loss is all about calories in and calorie out. You want to burn more calories than you consume. By fasting 1 or 2 days per week you dramatically reduce the number of calories consumed and you will lose weight. There are no crazy meal plans to follow but you have to be sensible about your food choices when not fasting. Any weight loss plan has to fit in with your lifestyle and fasting can fit into any lifestyle. It's not restrictive and it doesn't make you resentful. It's actually very liberating and gives you a total sense of control over your body.

Intermittent fasting as a lifestyle will bring about changes that will last a lifetime. As with any weight loss program, start slow and build up. Listen to your body as you start on this journey but don't be tricked into thinking that you are missing out on anything. Many times, especially at first, your body will be going through some withdrawals, and it's important to learn how to differentiate the signals. Look at fasting as an opportunity to break bad eating habits from the past and start a fresh chapter of controlled weight loss and healthy eating. Coupled with an appropriate exercise program fasting can provide you with the weight loss results you have been looking for.

The most important thing to remember about intermittent fasting is that it is not merely a diet plan, but a lifestyle. Look into what intermittent fasting can do for you!
