It is important now more than ever that we have strong leadership for Alberta. Leadership with vision.

And leadership with integrity to restore good government to our province.

I want to tell you a little about my friend, Jim Prentice.
Jim and I served in Stephen Harper's Conservative government. During this time, Jim held a
variety of positions, including Minister of Industry, Minister of Environment and Minister of
Indian Affairs and Northern Development.
It was my privilege to serve as his Vice-Chair of the federal Cabinet Operations Committee. In
our respective Cabinet positions over the next almost five years I had the distinct pleasure of
working very closely with Jim and came to appreciate his intelligence, integrity, work ethic and
humility. In short, he embodied the true meaning of "public service".
During this time, he conducted himself with the highest degree of integrity and competence.
He never used a government credit card. He advanced the interests of Albertans and Canadians
on each file that he worked on. And he always promoted the exercise of public service with the
utmost honesty and trustworthiness.
We all knew him as "Mr. Fixit" because when given a task, he got the job done.
So much so, that when he retired from federal public service in 2010, Stephen Harper said that
Jim was:
"The chief operating officer of the Government of Canada."
I did then, as I do now, echo the comments of the Prime Minister when he said this about Jim:
"I know that in all of those functions he has earned the highest respect, not just of me but of all
his colleagues in the government, of all his colleagues in Parliament and of all Canadians..."
[Hansard, Nov 4, 2010].
Jim's record speaks for itself.
