Kurikulum Baru Sekolah Rendah (KBSR),

A syllabus is an expression of opinion on the nature of language and learning. In KBSR context, it
is an overview of the English language curriculum to be taught from Year 1 until Year 6.
Curriculum specification is a planned and guided learning experience by teacher to students
functioning as support documents to explain the syllabus in greater detail.
Syllabus and curriculum are supporting and complementing each other; i.e. the specific
contents in Curriculum Specifications are designed to fulfil the requirements stated in the
syllabus.


KSSR is the new improved curriculum version with some new added features. Among them are
1. Language Arts
Introduce drama, music, poetry to further expose and enhance students English.
2. Penmanship
Train and teach pupils so that they have better handwriting; unlike KBSR where it
was not emphasize pupils have poor handwriting.
3. Phonics
Teaching reading through sounds of alphabets ; Unlike KBSR, pupils face problem to
pronounce words correctly
4. Modular approach
English is taught through modules listening & speaking, reading, writing, language
arts and grammar modules so that all the skills can complement each others and
more meaningful.

Approach - a set of assumptions dealing with the nature of language learning and teaching
i.e. communicative approach

Method - overall systematic presentation in the teaching and learning of language based on
a selected approach

Technique - Specific activities carried out in the classroom based on the method selected.
