FORMER EMPLOYEE AT THE STATEN ISLAND DAS OFFICE
FINED $10,000 FOR OFFERING CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION
TO A DRUG DEALER & FOR USING HER DAS OFFICE ID
IN ATTEMPT TO PREVENT HER HUSBANDS ARREST
Today, the New York City Conflicts of Interest Board announced it
issued an Order fining a former Clerical Associate at the Staten Island District
Attorneys Office $10,000 for two violations of Citys conflicts of interest
law. The Boards Order adopts the findings of fact, conclusions of law, and
penalty from the Report and Recommendation of Administrative Law J udge
(ALJ ) Kara J . Miller of the Citys Office of Administrative Trials and
Hearings. The Order with the Report and Recommendation follows this
release.
J udge Miller found, and the Board concurred, that the former Clerical
Associate committed two violations of the Citys conflicts of interest law.
First, in J anuary 2013, the former Clerical Associate exchanged messages
with a convicted drug dealer, offering to provide him with confidential
information as to whether he was under investigation or at risk of being
arrested in the future if the drug dealer would provide the Clerical Associates
husband with two units of crack cocaine on consignment. Second, in
February 2013, when New York City Police Department detectives
approached the Clerical Associates residence in pursuit of her husband, who
had just been observed by the detectives purchasing crack cocaine, the
Clerical Associate verbally identified herself as an employee of the Staten
Island District Attorneys Office and showed her official District Attorneys
Office identification to the detectives in an attempt to prevent her husbands
arrest.
The Board concurred in the ALJ s determination that the Clerical
Associate violated the Citys conflicts of interest law by (1) using her position
at the District Attorneys Office to offer to obtain confidential information for
a convicted drug dealer for the purpose of obtaining drugs for her husband;
and (2) using her official District Attorneys Office identification for the non-

failed to appear at the hearing of this matter.
