By Sherlissa PetersScreams of "amandla" echoed through the PietermaritzburgHigh Court yesterday following a judgment that was hailed as avictory for the Zulu nation.Judge Nic van der Reyden yesterday dismissed an applicationby Animal Rights Africa Trust (ARA), which sought to restrainKing Zwelithini from causing or permitting a bull to beslaughtered, or in any way ill-treated, at the Ukweshwamaceremony, also known as the Festival of First Fruits.The ceremony was scheduled to take place today at the king'spalace in Nongoma.The judge said that it was an extremely sensitive issue for many.It affected the rights of both the applicants and the respondents.

He said it was necessary to weigh up the interests of ARA andtheir aims and objectives, against that of the rights of the Zulunation to honour and uphold their customs and traditions.
